As a Glasgow-based serial entrepreneur, Gilles Baudet finds himself in a variety of situations on a regular basis, from meeting tight deadlines, to delivering on new client campaigns, to managing staff, to facilitating scalable growth during a cost of living crisis, and more. All whilst juggling his business ventures alongside being a present husband and positive role model for his two children. It’s no mean feat!
However, in order to remain grounded with a busy day-to-day, Gilles Baudet puts emphasis on the importance of your lifestyle and the way in which you spend your limited free time that can benefit you greatly. People with busy lifestyles (not just entrepreneurs!) often lean towards quick fixes, for instance, a takeaway when they get home from a long day rather than a home-cooked meal, or getting up a little later than usual to make the most of the extra half hour in bed, or having a glass of wine to relax, but these ‘fixes’ can have negative effects and it’s important to be mindful of that!
Here are 3 lifestyle changes you NEED to make, according to Gilles Baudet:
Exercise Regularly
It’s no secret that regular exercise comes with a range of health benefits, including a fit and healthy body and mind. Exercise can be in whichever form suits you best, from weekly yoga sessions to marathon training, there’s something for everyone, and it doesn’t have to break the bank either in order to pay off for you.
Gilles Baudet says: “Entrepreneurship and building a business can be very intense and incredibly stressful at times, so it’s vital to find a positive outlet to recharge, reset and clear your mind. I run – a lot”
Exercising regularly can ensure that your body and mind are kept in the best condition, as well as ensuring that you have a suitable outlet for any pent up stress or aggression that occur as the result of starting up or running a business.
Meditate Daily
Entrepreneurship, more often than not, results in a very busy mind. There are a million and one things to consider, think about and deal with at any one time. Even the most organised of individuals would find a mind that busy to be a big weight to bear! To combat this, Gilles Baudet recommends daily meditation. He says;
“Even if you only meditate for 5-10 minutes a day, at the start or at the end of the day, you will almost instantly feel clearer in your head. Not only that, meditation encourage and promotes a sense of discipline necessary to your day-to-day, so it helps there too”
There are lots of tutorials available online for effective meditation and it can be anything from a couple of minutes to a couple of hours, depending on how deep you go!
Eat & Drink Well
It goes without saying that the easy option can often be eating out, or a takeaway, especially when you have a busy working or living schedule. However, everyone knows that after eating too much, or eating the wrong things, you begin to feel overweight, or sluggish, or lacking in energy, or all of the above. All of which are the last thing you need when you want to be on the ball to keep the momentum going in the day-to-day running of your business. Gilles Baudet comments that:
“Eating well was by far the most effective change I made to my lifestyle. It was tough at first to make different choices that would be right for me and my body, but when I started to feel different – good different – that’s when the penny dropped. I drink a lot of clean, green smoothies and drink water like it’s going out of fashion, because it really does make you feel great. That’s how you need to feel when you need to be on it”
Making a significant change to your lifestyle, such as changing your eating and drinking habits, is never an easy transition in the first instance. However, if you continue to eat right and drink well, the results will speak for themselves.
Helpful Insights?
A busy lifestyle can be chaotic enough, so it’s vital that you put yourself first and treat your mind and body with the same level of importance as you do your business and career. By exercising regularly, meditating daily and eating and drinking well, you will soon find you are reaping the benefits!
