Houston, TX – Housefire in East End left a family without their home and three family dogs, fire department officials confirm.

The housefire happened in the 6900 block of Avenue C near 70th Street Saturday night around 10 p.m.

Family luckily escaped the fire, but their three family dogs died in the blaze.

There is no official information what caused the fire, but family member told the firefighters they think the heaters they’d bought to deal with the cold overloaded the home’s electrical system.

“I was on the second floor, and my younger sister said that the breaker had tripped,” said resident Alonzo Arevalo. “I was going to go check it, and I smelled smoke. On the second floor, there was an attic. I kicked the door open, and I saw fire in there. I was trying to turn it off and was unsuccessful.”

His stepdaughter was taken to the nearest hospital for a treatment after she was overcome by the smoke. Doctors expect fast recovery.

Total of two fires were registered in the Houston-area in the last 24h with injuries recorded.
