Samsung has announced its first phones in the new year. They are toned-down variants of its 2019 flagships and are aptly termed the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite and the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite. The idea is to offer premium flagship features at a budget-friendly price. Note that both the Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy Note 10 made our list of the best smartphones of 2019.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite

The S10 Lite features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen ( 1080×2400 pixels) and runs on 2019's flagship processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855. The display is bigger in comparison to the S10, but at a lower resolution.

It comes with 6 or 8 gigs of RAM and 128 GB of storage with an option to expand it via a microSD card. The rear camera is a triple lens setup (48 MP, 12 MP and 5 MP) which misses out on the 2x optical zoom available on the S10 but gets optical image stabilization instead.

The battery is significantly bumped up to 4,500 mAh (from 3,400 mAh). IP68 certification for water-proofing and wireless charging have been abandoned.

The device starts at €649 (₹53,000 approx.).

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite

As is synonymous with the Note moniker, the stylus has been retained on the Note 10 Lite. It carries the same specifications as that of the S10 Lite above.

The camera department is changed though. The 5 MP macro lens is replaced with a 12 MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. Optical image stabilization is dropped. The main camera lens is also dropped to 12 MP (from 48 MP in the S10 Lite).

The smartphone is priced at €599 (₹48,000 approx.).

Quoting DJ Koh, President and CEO of IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics,

"The Galaxy S and Galaxy Note devices have met consumer wants and demands around the world. These devices represent our continuous effort to deliver industry leading innovations, from performance and power to intelligence and services. The Galaxy S10 Lite and Galaxy Note10 Lite will introduce those distinct key premium features that make up a Galaxy S and Galaxy Note experience."

India availability for both these devices is expected soon as spotted on their country specific website as well as on the e-commerce platform Flipkart.
