2015 Awards – Hidden Gems

By Newguy

Through the month of January I will be looking back on 2015, I will be looking at a range of subjects where I will be picking my best or worst in separate posts.

Today I will be look at Hidden Gems, these are the films that seem to have gone under the radar, with some being straight to DVD. I feel these films are very enjoyable in their own genre for their own reasons.

Mentions that could have been number one;

·   Cyberbully – This was the made for TV movie shown in the UK, it star Game of Thrones Maisie Williams as a young girl who ends up on the end of a Cyberbully attack giving her a taste of her own medicine. This only stars Williams who does an excellent job in the role.

·   Skin Trade

Tony Jaa and Dolph Lundgren teaming up to track down an international group of Human Traffickers, this is just pure action that seemed to go straight to DVD in one of Jaa’s first English language films.

·   Clown

logo
Is a horror film about a man who finds an old clown costume but once he puts it on he can’t take it off and slowly starts to turn into a blood thirsty clown. This is a great horror using one of the icon ideas of horror and is filled with blood and gore.

·   Star Leaf – Is about alien weed that gives you the best trip of your life but if you try to take it away you will get hunted down, I really enjoyed the idea of this film and the campaigning message about legalizing weed works well.

·   Vendetta

logo
is a prison based action revenge thriller that’s cast left me questioning whether it would be good, but once I saw this it fast became one of the best thrillers I had seen with the Soska Sister pulling their own Tarantino trick with Dean Cain’s career.

·   All American Bully

logo
is a thriller about one boy who gets bullied but decides to stand up to them leading to devastating consequences.

·   Bully – This story follows a teenager who is getting bullied but when he makes a new friend on the internet that will make this story go in a direction you could never imagine.

·   Shopping Channels

logo
A Romantic story follow two opposites who go on a road trip showing that if you let someone into your life you never know what could happen.

·   Bang, Bang Baby

bang bang
This musical horror has catchy songs with a twist filled story that felt unique from start to finish.

My favourite

·   Clinger

This horror comedy that hit all the marks for me making me laugh throughout with a story I saw a few times but this was the best of the lot.
