Through the month of January I will be looking back on 2015, I will be looking at a range of subjects where I will be picking my best or worst in separate posts.
Today I will be look at Best Actress, these are the actresses that have made a big impact with their performances this year. I have pick ten performances and they are NOT in an order before number one.
Mentions that could have been number one;
· Maisie Williams – Cyberbully This is from a made for TV movie in the UK where the young Game of Thrones star gives us a solo performance as a teenager getting tormented online by an unknown cyber stalker in an act of revenge. It was great to see one of the most popular stars from GoT shine in a role that could have turned out very boring.
· Charlize Theron – Mad Max Fury Road This performance shows Hollywood still knows how to make strong female action stars in a role here where she owns every scene she is in.
· Helen Mirren – Woman in Gold Helen gives us a great performance opposite Ryan Reynolds on this based on a real story of one lady who takes on a government to get back what is hers.
· Olivia Cooke – Me and Earl and The Dying Girl Olivia is the Dying Girl who ends up becoming friends with our leading star as the two whose lives are going in very different direction become friends in this coming of age tale.
· Cate Blanchett – Carol Cate is brilliant in this role as the older woman who gets involved in a relationship with a young woman.
· Rooney Mara – Carol Rooney plays the young woman who falls for the older woman in this lesbian love story from the 1950s.
· Saoirse Ronan – Brooklyn We follow the young Irish woman who move to Brooklyn where she beginnings a romance with an Italian before tragedy strikes back home and she is left with a difficult decision about where to spend her life.
· Alicia Vikander – The Danish Girl Alicia plays Gerda a Danish artist who supports her husband through his decision to become a woman, she is incredible in this role where she could have been nominated for even more performances this year.
· Rachel McAdams – Spotlight Rachel gives us a flawless performance in this very interesting film about the Boston Globe.
My favourite
· Brie Larson – Room Brie gives one of the best performance in many years in this difficult to watch film that could be hauntingly true.
