Through the month of January I will be looking back on 2015, I will be looking at a range of subjects where I will be picking my best or worst in separate posts.
Today I will be look at Best Actor, and this time I will be actually ranking the performances from 10 to 1.
Mentions that could have been number one;
· 10 – Ryan Reynolds – The Woman in Gold The first of a surprise inclusion on my list, that makes it here because of the chemistry created with Helen Mirren in this true story.
· 9 – Arnold Schwarzenegger – Maggie I said it in my review that this was his best acting performance of his career in a film that not everyone has enjoyed but you can’t take it away from the action icon in this emotional drama.
· 8 – Abraham Attah – Beasts of No Nation The first of two brilliant performances from young actors in this very difficult watch we see the young boy turned into a child soldier.
· 7 – Jacob Tremblay – Room The second of the brilliant performance from a young actor as he final sees the world for the first time after being locked away for his whole life.
· 6 – Eddie Redmayne – The Danish Girl Brave performance from Eddie showing he is capable of brilliance in difficult roles.
· 5 – Michael Fassbender – Steve Jobs Fassbender shines in this role where he ends up being the iconic man through three different time periods showing us just how the man thought.
· 4 – Jake Gyllenhaal – Southpaw Not the biggest boxing fan but this film and performance showed just how far actors will go to look the part.
· 3 – Matt Damon – The Martian The most engaging performance of the year as one of the most likeable characters of the year we get a masterclass from Damon in a role that could very easily have been dull.
· 2 – Bryan Cranston – Trumbo Cranston is stunning in this role as the screen writer standing up for what he believes in even against being on the blacklist by Hollywood.
My favourite
· 1 – Leonardo DiCaprio – The Revenant What can you say about this truly brutal performance from one of the best actors in the business today, he has to go through so much in this film and convinces in every single scene.
Honourable Mentions
· Michael Keaton & Mark Ruffalo – Spotlight – Both Brilliant in this ensemble cast.
· Will Smith – Concussion – Great to see him back on top but the story is lacking full depth drags him down.
