The biggest event in out-of-home advertising, OAAA’s OBIE Awards, went down without a hitch on May 21. The event was swanky. The emcee was entertaining. And as always, the creative was stellar. Frequent friends of The Hangline, Firehouse and Sukle were represented. Forgive me, but I’m going to brag on my own company in my first paragraph here. Adams Outdoor took home 4 silver OBIEs, more than any other company. Way to go, peeps.
There were three best of show awards this year: Best Billboard, Best Alternative, and Best Multi-Format.
Best Billboard Campaign
Prudential Financial by Droga5
Best Street Furniture/Transit/Alternative
Bravo’s Interior Therapy by ShowMedia/Dom Camera & Company
Best Multi-Format Campaign
Absolut Greyhound by TBWA\Chiat\Day, New York
Other Highlights
Best of Show winners always get the most attention, but here are some that I think deserve a bit more.
Leo Burnett snagged a Gold OBIE for their “Mayhem is Everywhere” stunt for Allstate. I’m also giving them the award for best acceptance video.
Colle+McVoy created these tune-up stations on bus shelters to promote Pedal Minnesota. I love functional advertising.
This post-superstorm message by CBS Outdoor is simple and empowering.
Station domination by Taxi for Snuggle fabric softener. Walls and displays are covered in soft fluffy material. I want to live in this subway station.
And The Hangline Award for biggest LOL goes to Doe Anderson for Women’s Diagnostic Center. This one had me chuckling well into the next week. The full list of finalists and winners can be found at OAAA’s website. This year’s judges chose a good crop of creative with substance rather than style or technology. Congratulations to all the winners and finalists.
What do you think? Do you agree with the winners? Think anyone got snubbed? What would be your Best of Show?
