2012: The Year’s Most Scathing Restaurants and Hotels Experiences

Sometimes bad things happen… Sometimes you get trapped in a wrong place only to encounter a bad experience that you tend not to forget. I have tried some good hotels and restaurants in 2012, but I also experienced some bad ones as well.

But before reading on, I must say that I am surprised that in today’s fast moving world, some places still present a bad dish or welcome customers into a dirty room, or offer bad and unpleasant service!

Below are a few of the places I didn’t appreciate at all.

Sushi Mooda: An Unacceptable Sushi Restaurant

After my last review on Sushi Mooda, I got invited to another lunch there that I happily accepted. I wanted to go another time and maybe give them the benefit of the doubt and check on their progress. My first review was written during the first month of it’s opening. So I said why not…

Izvora Folk Restaurant, Arbanasi, Bulgaria

With the rich diversity of the menu including over 450 different choices of food and drinks, the Izvora (which means The spring. Folk restaurant gives it’s guests the possibility to enjoy the traditional Bulgarian cuisine in a number of ways. The restaurant, which was awarded Restaurant of the Year 2003 in Bulgaria, is divided into…

Cocteau Beirut: Shockingly Rude and Unprofessional Waiters

Garfunkel’s London: Everybody’s Favorite but Surely not Mine

Garfunkel’s seems to be the reference local diner in town like Americans have Applebee’s or Chili’s. I have been passing by it many times and finally decided to try it and see what’s it all about. Entering Garfunkel’s Leicester square we were welcomed by a high music like if it was a nightclub. An annoying sound that…

Le YEN Sushi, Antelias, Lebanon

The Metn area (Lebanon) needs a decent sushi place, urgently! I was never a big fan of Le Yen Sushi place in Antelias but I wanted to try it since no one is talking about this Japanese eatery lately. Is it good, is it average or desperately avoidable? It makes sense to me why no…

Sultan Lebanese Restaurant, Moscow

Sultan is a Lebanese restaurant in Moscow serving Middle Eastern specialities as well as Sushi. Sushi and Sachimi in a belly dancing restaurant? I have a thing against eating Lebanese food outside Lebanon because I know that the quality of food and service can never be equal to the one back home…

Opium Asian Cuisine, Dbayeh

A new Asian restaurant recently opened in Dbayeh – Opium. Opium serves Japanese, Chinese and Thai food. Although the place has a lot of potential to stand out in the market as a unique restaurant, it must focus on one type of cuisine. With a competition so harsh out there, it has to be different…

Shakespeare&Co… An Unacceptable Restaurant

The long awaited Shakespeare & Co, one of the most famous cafes of Dubai has now opened in Lebanon. The anticipation of trying this popular place in my homeland made me want to be the first to experience it in Lebanon. The restaurant opened two weeks ago. Emphasizing on the fact that it has been…

Fuddruckers International Franchise, Lebanon

The food, service and overall look of this classic American restaurant is simply unacceptable. I will go straight to the point, and unfortunately this time be very negative stating facts as they happened. – The cheese in the burger we ordered came cold, while the bread was very old and disgusting.  It even crunched like…

L’Humeur Du Chef, Bad Mood Bad Food

Chitchatting between friends, we decided to go try L’Humeur Du Chef, one of Mar Mikhael’s special places. It is considered special since the Chef, Jad El-Hage prepares a uniquely different menu daily live in front of his guests. L’Humeur Du Chef is a 50m2 restaurant located on one of Mar Mikhael’s narrow streets, between L’Oca Matta…

Vitosha Park Hotel, Sofia: A Two-Star Hotel Which Claimes to be Four

The Vitosha Park Hotel is a good location found on the foot of Vitosha mountain – away from the city’s hustle yet close to the modern business rhythm. To be honest this is the only positive thing about this hotel. If you read the info on their website, you will imagine that you will be staying…

RelaiSpa Hotel, CDG Airport: A Disasterous Low Class Room Provider!

We reached France. We were staying a night at one of the hotels around the airport before moving on to our next destination. Although it was stated that a bus passes by every 15 minutes for pickup to the hotel, which is in this case RelaiSpa Hotel, we waited from 10:45pm and were picked up…

Holiday Inn Olaya Hotel, Riyadh. My Third Stay

This is my third review on the Holiday Inn, Riyadh and every time I come, I come with an open mind, hoping to experience a change, but unfortunately nothing. Third time was not a charm for me… But I then realized that they are actually happy with what they have and how they are running the hotel…

The Regency Palace Hotel, Amman

The Regency Palace in Amman Jordan is one of the oldest five stars hotels in town. It’s surely not a five star service. Previously the Sheraton and part of WorldHotels, the regency is still welcoming its guests with an ambiance and decoration dating from the eighties. You feel how old it is, how used, how…

Holiday Inn Hotel Nicosia City Center, Cyprus

It is surely not the international Holiday-Inn standard. Holiday Inn Nicosia City Center is the city’s most central hotel, and is located 50km from Larnaca International Airport. Visit local businesses and the many attractions of this thriving capital, all within walking distance of the hotel. Located in South Nicosia, close to the Green Line…

I hope I won’t experience any bad restaurants and hotels this year…
