2012 Golden Globe Awards Fashion Roundup: Blushing Moments

By Jewelrygal @1928jewelry

Ready, set, here comes the couture! If there is one thing to say about the Golden Globes, it is that it marks the beginning of a very high-fashion awards show season! A-list celebrities put on their fashion A-game starting on the Golden Globes red carpet, and if this past Sunday has anything to say for the fashion we will be seeing in the up and coming months, we are in for a treat! Stylists have really worked hard to develop their celebrity clients’ personal styles and give them head to toe looks that are (no pun intended) award winning! Although not every star hit it out of the ballpark on the red carpet for the Globes, we’re sure they’ll make a comeback. But for those who did score some style points, they are now on our radar, and we can’t wait to see what they’ll come up with next!

I personally love watching the red carpet arrivals live to see each celebrity make their grand entrance! It is also the best time to notice how trends become trends. What we see on the red carpet is bound to translate to everyday wear, so take note of these star favored color trends and you’ll be set for the spring! While red was the choice color last season, a new shade took over this year.

Yes, “Blush is the new Black” could not have been preached any louder after the Golden Globes as over ten different leading ladies graced the awards show in designer gowns in the same neutral, pink hue. Some pulled it off with flying colors (however neutral blush may be!) and some should have waited to see how it’s done best, but the sheer volume alone of blush colored dresses was enough to make a statement!

Here are some stars who didn’t quite hit the mark with their blush toned gowns…

Jessica Biel chose a much too matronly Elie Saab Haute Couture number. I normally love this designer on the red carpet and was disappointed that she looked so hum-drum in it. Perhaps it was just designed for someone more mature.

Then there was Piper Perabo in a Theyskens’ Theory nude dress with a sheer plunging neckline. The dress isn’t so bad, but with those poses she kept striking and the balance of the blush dress with her skin tone just didn’t work for us.

Heidi Klum looked like a vision in a minimalist Calvin Klein Collection gown topped with a Lorraine Schwartz turquoise statement necklace. The only problem is that it is far too casual for the Globes! The supermodel should know better, especially to not style that silken dress with casual sandals.

And last but not least of our “bad in blush” group is singer Mary J. Blige. Her jeweled and feathered Michael Kors gown is pretty, but we wish her hair was a different color. Overall, not a total wreck, but some jewel tones would have done this star some good.

So maybe blush was the biggest, most popular color on the carpet, but clearly it doesn’t mean everyone can pull it off. These stars (pictured below) however, not only made blush beautiful, but were some of the best dressed ladies of the evening! Each and every one of them looked like a total movie star, glamorous from head to toe! After seeing these fashion moments, everyone will want to wear blush!

Even as the face of Christian Dior, Charlize Theron still managed to wow us in this semi-predictable designer choice. Her gown and Cartier accessories made her the ultimate femme-fatale! We love the high “slit” and blush color against her skin tone. Charlize definitely knows what kind of glamour the Golden Globes calls for and exceeded all expectations!

Angelina Jolie was another vision on the red carpet! Her silk Atelier Versace champagne colored gown with red collar accent had a nice vintage appeal to it, yet is so very modern and sleek! This dress not only fit her body well but made her personal style really stand out!

Pretty as a princess, Modern Family actress Julie Bowen was radiant in her blush number by Reem Acra. Complete with a romantic soft curl in her hair to show off her jeweled shoulders, this dress should spark some serious inspiration for similar, ready-to-wear pieces. Can’t you picture the bodice as a top? I know I can, and have my fingers crossed!

Kristen Wiig looked the most fashionable I have ever seen her Sunday night! Opting for more of a nude shade rather than blush, the comedian looked heavenly in a sleek Bill Blass gown. Something about her chocolaty locks and the creamy fabric could not have been a better match!

Roberto Cavalli would be proud to see his gown on Kate Beckinsale! The beautiful brunette actress filled out this sparkling mermaid gown perfectly. For such a feminine dress, we love the little bit of edge thrown in there with the unique shelf top. Bravo, Beckinsale!

And last but not least, although in the color furthest from blush, we have Nicole Kidman. Her light silver Versace number was studded with gold, which created a mixed metal shade that turned out to be rather neutral, not shiny. With her stunning hair and makeup, we think this dress is one of Nicole’s best red carpet looks in a long time, and she looked perfectly on trend, even amongst all the blush.

Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about the fab finds we caught on the red carpet. We’ll be bringing you the rundown of celebrity jewels that match some of our styles on Friday! But with this much blush on parade, we had to take note. The best thing about blush? You can accessorize it with just about ANY color! So take this red carpet cue and go shopping for some champagne, nude, and blush hued items. We promise you’ll be perfectly on trend this spring and have these pieces forever!
