I love wine from Chile.
At least, I’ve really enjoyed the Chilean wines I’ve tasted so far. In addition to a Sauvignon Blanc that I tasted a while back at an in-store wine tasting, I’ve had some MontGras wines that I’ve really enjoyed. I’ve also had some good wines from Terra Andina, Santa Ema, and Viña Palo Alto. When I saw that Dolce Vita had a Chilean wine on sale, I had to try it.
This wine is from Viña Siegel, but it is not shown on their website. I did find some information about the wine at Kysela Pere et Fils, Ltd., the importer in the USA. This wine is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Syrah, and it was aged for 8 weeks in 100% French oak barrels.
Although Viña Siegel’s vineyards are in the Colchagua Valley, the label lists “Central Valley” as the origin. This may indicate that they sourced some of the grapes used from other vineyards outside of the Colchagua Valley, but still in the Central Valley. I don’t know for sure.
Let’s get to the wine now.
I can tell from the nose that I’m going to like this wine. It’s fruity with some spice.
The first taste confirms it. I like this wine.
As it sits in the glass, it opens up more, and more wonderful flavors come out. I’m getting dark cherries, black currant (cassis), vanilla, and mocha. There’s some spice as well. I think I’m getting a bit of cream on the finish, too. The tannins give the wine good structure. The wine is very well balanced. There’s lots of flavors, but no one flavor dominates.
This wine is delicious. I continue to be impressed with the quality of wines coming from Chile. I’m giving this wine an “Excellent” rating. I highly recommend this wine.
