2005 Yu55

Posted on the 09 April 2011 by Gabe12logan
Asteroid 2005 YU55 with diameter of 400 meters will be away from the Earth only 0.85 lunar distances in early november this year(2011). Due to the size of the object and close proximity to Earth this will be the opportunity for research and to plan the visual and infrared observations, as well as observation through a variety of radars. Asteroid was discovered in 2005 by Tucson's Lunar and Planetary Laboratory at the University of Arizona.

Arrival of 2005 YU55 near-Earth in 8th november is an unusual occurrence, because such a large asteroid will be so close. On average, do not expect that such a large object passes near the Earth every 30 years. The combination of optical devices on Earth and infrared observations, radar data should give a complete picture of one of the potentially hazardous asteroids.
Asteroid 205 YU55 slowly rotates, and because of its size and proximity to Earth, the Minor Planet Center in Cambridge, declared him as "potentially hazardous asteroid". This will be the closest to Earth flight of an asteroid since 1976th to 2028th year.
