Singapore is the jewel crown of South East Asia. This country might be small in size but in no way small in the number of things you can do here. This city-state is packed with activities and here is a snippet of 15 of them that should be on everyone’s itinerary:
15. Hawker center – The best way to explore any culture is through their food and Singapore is just the food capital of South East Asia. There are plenty of hawker centers spread across the city. The food here is delicious as well as pocket friendly. Some of the most famous one are Lau Pa Sat, Chinatown, Maxwell, Tekka Center and so on.
14. Singapore Botanic Garden – This UNESCO world heritage site has many things to explore. The ‘National Orchid Garden’ is one of the main attraction. The overall park is peaceful with elevated bridge above the forest will give you a mesmerizing view.
13. SEA Aquarium – One of the main attractions in Sentosa and one of the largest aquariums in the world. You can find dedicated sections pertaining to different oceans like Pacific, Indian, Atlantic and more here. Not only does it showcase marine life but also how humans have ruined their habitat by overfishing and throwing non-degradable wastes like plastic into our oceans. Behold and pause at the tanks showing sharks and stingray and be amazed at the sight.
12. Bugis – Singapore for many is the shopping destination and Bugis is a street shoppers paradise. There are hundred of stall in this market ranging from cloths to souvenirs to chocolates, you have it all. The prices are cheap compared to other destinations.
11. Singapore Flyer – There are many places to behold the skyline of Singapore and Singapore Flyer is one of them. The largest revolving observatory gives a eagle eye view of the city, the port and the oceans separating it from Malaysia and Indonesia. The best time to visit the Flyer is around 6pm when you can enjoy both the day as well as sunset views.
10. Jurong Bird Park – A one of its kind bird park located away from the Central Business District of Singapore. Don’t miss the Bird Show which is not only interactive but also funny. The climax of this show is something you cannot miss. If it gets too sunny better take the tram across the park which helps you save plenty of time as well.
9. Orchard Road – If you are looking to shop for high end brands then Orchard should be on your list. The Orchard is a collection of 20+ malls packed in a street of 2kms. Some of the best ones are Ion Orchard, Far East Plaza, Takashimaya and many more.
8. Singapore Zoo and Night Safari – The Singapore Zoo is again one of its kind as it houses a large number of animals. You may also explore the Night Safari which showcases nocturnal animals and is something that you cannot find anywhere else. Getting here may take a while as it is away from the city. It also gets very crowded in the weekends or school holidays.
7. Little India – This area housing a number of Indian shops, restaurants, temples and so on. It is the best place to experience Indian festivals as well. Walking here is similar to walking in any busy Indian city be it Delhi, Mumbai or Chennai. Don’t miss to try Khansama offering the best Indian food in Singapore!
6. ChinaTown and Buddha Tooth Relic Temple – Another part of the city is home to people of Chinese origin. This area is famous for 3 things – Souvenirs, Souvenirs and Souvenirs. There are hundreds of shops selling souvenirs be it tshirts, key-chains, electronics or anything in random. While you’re here do visit the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple to find inner peace. Just steps away is the Maxwell and ChinaTown hawker center.
5. Marina Bay Sands (Skypark, Casino and Spectra) – Marina Bay Sands or MBS is the most iconic building not only in Singapore but all over the world. It houses a shopping mall, hotel, casino among other things. This three tower building is fitted with a boat shaped deck on the top. The deck is home to the Infinity pool (only accessible by hotel guests) and the Skypark. The Skypark is an amazing roof top observatory deck giving unparallel view of the coastline and Singapore’s iconic skyline. MBS is home to a huge casino that is open for all public (don’t forget to carry your passport). MBS also hosts a light and sound show called Spectra everyday at 8 and 9PM, don’t miss it while you are here!
4. Changi Airport – Well you might be wondering why Changi is in this list. Well you can actually spend couple of hours here without any issues. Being the best airport in the world it is packed with activities like the Slide, Butterfly park, swimming pool, shops, food courts and much much more.
3. Sentosa Island – Sentosa is known as ‘The State of fun’ and this small island is filled with activities. The best way to reach here is by Sentosa Express Monorail or take the broadwalk from Vivo City Mall. Some of the most interesting activities include Skyline Luge, Segway Funride, Wings of Time (a sound, light show), SEA Aquarium, Adventure Cove Park (water park), MegaZip and ofcourse Universal Studio. The best way to enjoy these activities is to get a fun pass and convenience inside the island is free. This island is super crowded during weekends or long school holidays, so better be avoided.
2. Universal Studios – One of the main attraction in Singapore and Sentosa is the Universal Studio. This theme park is one of the smallest among other but is packed with more than 20+ rides and handful of shows. Do visit the park as early as possible when the crowd is less, which is also a great time to enjoy the rollercoaster rides (Battlestar Galactica Human Vs Cylon). Some of the rides that you should not miss are the Transformers (a 3D ride which has the most crowd), Revenge of the Mummy, Jurassic Park Rapids adventure, . You can even do Universal souvenir shopping here but it wont be cheap.
1. Gardens by the Bay – No doubt Gardens by the Bay should be on everyone itinerary. The entire area is huge and might take a complete day to explore. But the three main attractions here are the Cloud Forest, Flower Dome and the SuperTree grove. If you have limited time then visit only the Cloud Forest (which has the largest indoor waterfall). The SuperTree grove are avatar styled steel tree with vegetation all-over. Don’t miss the lights and sound show happening everyday at 7.45 and 8.45pm.
