15 Day Book Blogging Challenge: Confessions

By Beautybutafunnygirl @beutybutfunygrl
I am a sucker for challenges and daily post type challenges. I think once I did one of those picture a day type things. It was fund, but I never engaged in another. The 15 Day Book Blogger Challenge, hosted by April of Good Books and Good Wine, is just something my little heart can't pass up!
Today's post is 15 book related confessions. So, without further ado, I confess!
  1. I like when my series books match. This includes formats, covers, and styles. Some of my series do match, but those are typically ones that were only X books long. Some of my series that have been around for years and the authors keep cranking out books... not so much. It's nearly impossible for this to be the case when it comes to these books, especially if since I've been reading them since book one. It's a fact I have to accept, but I don't have to like it.
  2. I was a strictly physical books only girl until my mom bought me the Kindle. It was a Christmas gift back in 2009. I wasn't thrilled at the time, but I thought I'd give a shot so I downloaded a book. And then another book. And then another. Since then I have upgraded to an iPad with the Kindle and iBooks app. While I will always prefer the smell (yes, smell) and feel of a physical book in my hand, I've become quite fond of eBooks.
  3. I will judge a book by its cover. Pretty covers will get a book picked up. Intriguing covers will get a book synopsis read. Unique covers will have checking Goodreads's stats. You get the point. Yes, there are the exceptions (good book/bad cover; good cover/bad book), but at least give me something to look at!
  4. Sometimes I hate starting a new book, especially if it's a new series. I wish I could explain this, but I can't. I love the beginning-middle, middle, and end of a book, but for some reason a small part of me does not look forward to the very beginning. It's completely illogical.
  5. Do. Not. Bend. My. Pages. Or ruin the spines. Or spill on my book. Or write in my book. Or use it to occupy your small child. Or let your pet get a hold of it. Or bend the cover backwards. You know what, forget it. Get your own copy.
  6. I feel guilty DNFing a book. Especially indie published books. Authors put so much of themselves, their time, and their energy into their books that I feel bad when I can't enjoy the story. I always try to get somewhere around 50-100 pages read (depending on the length). Sometimes though it just has to be done.
  7. I'm picky about the books I actually buy. I see a lot of bloggers talk about buying all these books or all the unread books they've bought and I can't. I would love to buy all the books I want, but I'm far too frugal to do so. What if I don't like it? What if I like it, but I didn't like it to actually want to own it? If it's not an author on my "auto-buy" list, I tend not to buy it. New authors do make it on to that list, so it's definitely not set in stone and I will buy books I've already read. For instance, I got Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard from the library and loved it. I proceeded to then order my own copy of Something Strange and Deadly from Amazon and also preorder A Darkness Strange and Lovely and the novella A Dawn Most Wicked. I also bought Cinder by Marrissa Meyer prior to reading it, a case where friends were raving about it and I'm a sucker for fairytale retellings.
  8. My favorite place it read is my hammock outside. It's perfectly placed beneath a huge tree in my backyard that provides just the right amount of shade. In the winter months, or when the weather is not so great, I plop myself on the couch with my favorite blanket. Always a glass of water or iced tea within reach.
  9. Sometimes I have to cover portions of the page while reading. I've done this with a few books. I want to know if a certain character is going to make it or if everything is going to be okay and my eyes sort of drift to later paragraphs.
  10. I re-read passages/quotes/scenes that I find particularity amusing/emotional or that has a huge plot twist. For this reason, sometimes it takes me a bit to finish a book. Sometimes these scenes are just so amazing I have to make sure I get every detail. Either that or commit a sarcastic comment to memory for future use.
  11. Occasionally my facial expressions mirror those of the characters. I don't know why it happens. It just does.
  12. I always have a book on me, even it's just on my iPhone's Kindle app. You never know when the opportunity to read is going to pop up unexpectedly.
  13. I'm a sucker for a good love triangle. It just has to be done well and actually contribute to the story. Otherwise, what's the point?
  14. I'm an extremely emotional reader. I yell. I cry. I go through the full spectrum of emotions when reading my books. It just can't be helped. And don't ask me to contain myself. It doesn't work.
  15. I want the Beauty and the Beast library. I want it. I want it. I want it. Also, it comes with a prince. So that's a bonus.
