Oh gosh, if I could have known that this anime, Yuri on Ice, is going to be this good, I would have watch it the instant it was released. I’ve been in the lookout for some new anime (preferably 2010 and above) after watching some pretty good one early this year and loving almost all of them. I’m not really into sports and the only sports anime that I’ve watched was Slam Dunk until I broke that record early this year. Oh scratch that, I forgot that I watched one last year but it wasn’t as intense like the ones I’ve watched this year especially this anime, Yuri on Ice.
Here’s a short sypnosis I’ve taken from myanimelist.
Reeling from his crushing defeat at the Grand Prix Finale, Yuuri Katsuki, once Japan’s most promising figure skater, returns to his family home to assess his options for the future. At age 23, Yuuri’s window for success in skating is closing rapidly, and his love of pork cutlets and aptitude for gaining weight are not helping either.
However, Yuuri finds himself in the spotlight when a video of him performing a routine previously executed by five-time world champion, Victor Nikiforov, suddenly goes viral. In fact, Victor himself abruptly appears at Yuuri’s house and offers to be his mentor. As one of his biggest fans, Yuuri eagerly accepts, kicking off his journey to make it back onto the world stage. But the competition is fierce, as the rising star from Russia, Yuri Plisetsky, is relentlessly determined to defeat Yuuri and win back Victor’s tutelage.
Yuri on Ice released its very first season last October 6, 2016 and continued airing until December 22 the same year. This anime was on my radar last year and since sports anime is starting to grow on me, I decided to give it a try and see what the fuss is all about. And my! This anime took me by surprise. Why? Let the following gifs/images (with some few sentences) do the explaining for me. It’s actually safer because I might drop some major spoilers since I’m still very hyped even after watching it four hours ago, *wink.
12 Reasons Why I’m Obsessed with Yuri on Ice
