12 Fun Backyard Games and Activities to Get Your Kids OutdoorsOnce the temperatures start warming up outside, my kids are ready to spend some time outdoors. They love playing outside and getting some fresh air. As a parent, it is very important to encourage your children to enjoy spending time outdoors and exercising. I am very picky when it comes to letting my children play outside by themselves since times have changed dramatically over the years. When I let my older children play outside, I rather them play out in the backyard so that I can keep an eye on them. Of course, this limits the type of activities that they can participate in because they have limited space. Today I wanted to share with you some backyard games for your children to enjoy.

Basketball

I got a miniature basketball goal for my youngest son and I put in on the back porch. He enjoys spending time outside shooting hoops and chasing the ball. As a mom, I don’t have to worry about him accidentally throwing the ball into the street or him wandering off.

Baseball

My youngest son received a cute baseball set for Christmas and I have been waiting until the weather was nice before I got it out for him. This set is suited for toddlers. However, older children can play baseball in the backyard too. If you are worried about a baseball going through a window, swap it out for a tennis ball.  They can also toss the tennis ball back and forth to each other too. This game can help your child develop their hand eye coordination skills.

Football

This is a popular sport in the US and it is never too early to let your kids start playing. If there aren’t enough players for a full team, don’t worry they still can toss the football to each other. It is great for hand eye coordination. They make nerf footballs and smaller ones for smaller hands to use, so next time you are at the store pick up a new football for your child.

Kickball

I always loved playing kickball growing up. For this game you need a ball and designate 4 spaces known as base. It is very similar to playing softball or baseball, except you roll the ball and kick it into the field. If you don’t have enough to play a game, you still can take turns rolling the ball and kicking it to the other person.
