Before getting into the details, here’s a friendly-tip. So you’re starting a business, it clearly means you’re expecting to run it for atleast a year, or more and hopefully forever isn’t that right?

So while choosing these hosting plans, it’s best to go for a minimum term of 1-year plans. These always have the biggest discounts, sometimes nearly 10x of their monthly-pricing. Not just that, going for the yearly term also in most cases enables you for additional benefits, such as free domains!

Let’s get going you some options then?

1. Bluehost

Bluehost is on the #1 position on this list for a reason, starting with the fact that it’s officially recommended by WordPress.

You can build a basic business “blog” on WordPress, or a complex, million dollar e-commerce portal in minutes. Woocommerce, one of the best e-commerce plugins for WordPress is responsible for over 28% of all e-commerce websites on the web. That establishes its worth, doesn’t it?

Bluehost’s shared servers start at a low $3.95/month. Free domains and free SSL certificates, 50 GB Storage and unmetered bandwidth make it one of the best web hosting for small business.

However, it doesn’t offer the CDN and website builder. There’s a live-chat available 24X7 or you could drop a call via phone.

More expensive plans even offer spam protection, domain privacy, Dedicated IP addresses and automated backup solutions. Everything your business needs to thrive and protect itself from some of the more aggressive competitors.

Or, you could always go with their VPS plans. Those are comparatively more expensive starting at $19.00/month for 1TB bandwidth, 2GB RAM and 30 GB storage.

Bluehost VPS Plans

They offer a “Build it for me” package which includes designing as well as marketing your website/product! If you’re building a business, a professional start wouldn’t hurt now, would it?

The VPS starts at a low $10.00/month. This plan is limited at 1GB RAM, and 30 GB Storage. The number of domains you can host, and e-mail IDs is unlimited. The upgrade options are impressive. As your business grows, the server can be upgraded in less than 30 seconds!

  • Free SSL: Yes
  • Free domain: No

WP Engine is one of “the” most professional and best web hosting for small businesses in 2020. It’s built for those projects which can’t afford the least oversight.

For starters, it offers staging. So you get a fully functional demo of your website before it goes live. Perfect for trimming all and any errors before pushing it out on the web.

As the name hints, it’s custom-tailored for WordPress. Their support staff mostly comprises of WordPress experts. Small businesses can’t afford breaches and hacks, to counter that it offers daily malware scans. The company even cleans your site for free if it gets infected with a virus/malware.

It also offers a “restore-point” which can be used to restore the site to a previous date/time in case of major breaches. Because it offers “managed” WP hosting, backups, upgrades, security and most other aspects are automatically taken care of.

All plans include a CDN, SSL, Genesis Framework, “Page Performance” and “EverCache”. The CDN, coupled with “Page Performance” delivers the fastest possible websites.

EverCache makes sure you don’t need to overload your site with other cache plugins. And Genesis Framework is considered to be one of the best WordPress frameworks in existence. It generally costs quite a bit, but not with WP Engine.

The cheapest plan costs $22.00/month. It’s followed by the “Growth” plan priced at $86.00/month and the “Scale” plan which costs $217.00/month. So it’s the most expensive option on this list, but worth double its price in features and value.

WP Engine Hosting Plans

Best for: Extremely professional, managed WordPress-based businesses, when “budget” isn’t a major issue.

4. Liquid Web

Website: https://www.liquidweb.com/

  • VPS plan: $15.00/month.
  • Free SSL: Yes
  • Free domain: No
  • Refund-period: None.
  • Free e-mails: Yes
  • Free CDN: Yes
  • Website builder: No.
  • Live Chat: Yes.

Liquid Web offers most if not all the features any new business website would need. That’s one of the reasons why I believe it’s one of the best website hosts for small businesses.

Cheapest VPS plan starts at $15.00/month. All VPS plans on Liquid Web offer free SSL, CDN, DDoS protection, dedicated IP address, and 100GB backup. The plan offers 2 vCPUs, and 40 GB space. More expensive plans can be opted for more space and CPU power.

Liquid Web doesn’t offer shared servers. It does however offer managed WordPress hosting, you also can peek at our list of the best cheap WordPress hosting companies if you plan on launching a WordPress project.

It doesn’t offer free domains though. Free E-mails are offered with cPanel. Website builder isn’t offered.

The support is impressive, they give you a call instantly from their end in case the live-chat isn’t cutting it for you. They even help you pick the perfect hosting plan for you depending on your exact business plan and model.

The company also offers easy scalability options in case you’d wish to upgrade. Datacenters are located in Lansing, Michigan, Phoenix, Arizona and Amsterdam. You as a user will get to choose the exact server location fitting your target-audience.

And according to this report, Liquid Web performs better than Amazon Web Services (AWS), Digital Ocean and Rackspace. All three of which are the industry-leader when it comes to VPS. This proves that quality, uptime or speed wouldn’t be a problem.

Unfortunately, the 1 & 2 year plans do not have a refund-policy.

Best for: Those who have some technical knowledge and are ready to work with its no-refund policy.

Cloudways is a “Cloud” hosting provider. So, your website isn’t hosted on one single server, but multiple servers around the globe. This offers the best uptime, and generally much faster websites. The servers recognize your visitors’ location, and serves pages from the closest possible servers.

It also ensures the site remains live even if a server fails. In a way, it’s one of the best bets to keep a site always up and running.

You get to choose from 5 cloud providers, namely Digital Ocean, Amazon Web Services, Google Compute Engine, Vultr and Linode.

All plans offer free SSL, free migrations, firewalls for security, and a CDN among other benefits. Automated backups too are included considering how it’s a managed hosting solution.

The pricing differs based on the cloud provider you choose. The lowest possible pricing is $10.00/month for Digital Ocean. AWS is the most expensive provider starting at $36.51/month. The features do not differ based on pricing, only the resources do.

You can either pay the fixed prices, or opt for the “hourly billing”. Also features a “Pay as you go” model where you pay only for the amounts of resources consumed by you.

There are no limitations on how many websites you can host on any of the plans either. Does require a bit of technical knowledge, doesn’t feature a cPanel. Although ultra-detailed, step-by-step guides and 24X7 live support helps with the onboarding process.

Best for: Those who need multiple websites, have a bit of technical knowledge and may need scaling in the future.

Whatever online business you’re trying to build, there’s a good chance you might be selling something? If yes, there couldn’t be a more well-suited answer to your project than Shopify.

It lets you build e-commerce platforms with its super easy website builder. All plans include a free SSL certificate. You also get integrated payment gateways for accepting payments for your products directly. Invoice creation, discount codes, and even advanced features such as Advance Cart Recovery are available.

No free domains are offered. Free e-mails too aren’t offered. You’ll also be limited to 1 domain/shopify server. It does however include a CDN.

Interserver is impressive in the sense that it guarantees “same price renewals”. Most other best web hosting for small business companies do not. Its shared plans start at $4.00/month.

It comes with Intershield protection, which is basically a virus-scanner and firewall for your website. Unlimited space, bandwidth and e-mail IDs are allowed. Free weekly backups too are included.  It does include free CDN as well as a free SSL certificate. Although no website builder or free domain is included.

VPS starts at $6.00/month. The package is 100% customizable, the more cores, RAM, storage and bandwidth you opt for the higher price you’d be paying.

It even has an e-commerce solution starting at $5.00/month. It allows creating e-commerce websites and has integrated payment options. There’s a live-chat available 24X7, although for some reason they need very detailed sentences to understand and help with your problems.  There’s a 30-day refund policy.

  • Free SSL: Yes
  • Free domain: No.

  • Free e-mails: Yes
  • Free CDN: Yes.
  • Website builder: Yes.

A2 Hosting is often considered one of the fastest among the best small business web hosting services. I’ve also featured it among the best cheap web hosting in general.

The starting price for its shared servers is $3.92/month. This plan offers a free CDN, 25 E-mails, free SSL certificate and unlimited space & bandwidth. However, the most appealing factor is its “anytime” moneyback guarantee. Also offers a website builder.

The more expensive plans also include free automatic backups and quite a few optimization tools.

No free domains are offered but I believe that’s a small business investment anyone can make. Multiple VPS plans are offered (Core/ Managed/ Unmanaged). The lowest plan is priced at $5.00/month for unmanaged VPS.  You get to choose from one of its many server locations manually.

They’ve got a responsive support team which can be reached via live-chat. Plans can be upgraded/downgraded or shifted from one server-type to another anytime.

  • Free domain: No.
  • Refund-period: 30-days.

  • Live chat: Yes.

Alike A2hosting, Siteground too allows users to choose the location of their servers. You can choose from Singapore, USA, UK and Europe on its shared plans. These plans start at $3.95/month.

A website builder, free SSL, free CDN as well as free daily backups are the prime attractions on all its shared plans.

You’d have to purchase the domain, either directly from Sitegound or elsewhere. It isn’t offered for free. The live-chat is available 24X7, and there’s a 30-day moneyback guarantee.

The company doesn’t offer VPS plans. However, you can go with its Cloud servers. These sure are more expensive but I believe a better technology. These start at $80.00/month.

It’s fully managed so you can focus more on your business and wouldn’t have to spend time keeping your site online. And the cloud servers can be upgraded in less than a minute thus offering the scalability your business will need in the future.

Best for: Smaller teams, medium-budget projects.

12 free months. Well that’s a major point of attraction for any new business I suppose? So if you purchase any of their shared plans for 2 years, the third year is absolutely free.

Shared plans start at $3.95/month. It’ll include a free SSL, CDN, e-mail accounts, daily backups, website builder and migration! So quite literally, it ticks all the boxes, doesn’t it?

The free domain isn’t included in this plan, but if you opt for the other shared plans that’s thrown-in as well.

More serious businesses can opt for the cloud servers. Those start at $39.00/month, while a tad-bit expensive the features do justify the pricing.

Absolutely no unpleasantries were exchanged beforehand, so maybe it’s just a technical error. The moneyback guarantee alike A2 Hosting is offered “anytime”!

Best for: Anyone looking for hosting solutions which offer “everything” a startup needs.

How to choose the best web hosting for small businesses?

Depending on the Price? No. That should be the least of your concerns. When starting a business, we expect investments. Even then, I’ve made sure to only include cheapest to comparatively cheaper web hosting for small business plans in this list. Because obviously, I know you can’t empty your pockets just on the server.

But, pay attention to a company’s overall quality. This will decide how Search Engines and visitors perceive your website. Search Engine ranking and user-trust isn’t an option, but a requirement for all business-websites on the internet.

For starters, it’s a good idea to go with companies offering SSL certificates. For a business, they’re just a mandatory requirement. It’s a legal requirement if you’re accepting payments on your website. Moreover, the green seal, or padlock they offer increases trust.

Moreover, not having a SSL certificate will make your website appear as “not secure” for Google Chrome users.

Secondly, CDN-offering hosts are a good choice. CDN increases your website speed for your visitors, regardless of their or your server’s location.

Speed is important, did you know Amazon would lose over $1.6Billion a year if it slowed by just 1 second? Or that, this research from Google suggests that you’d lose 53% of your mobile visitors (and hence potential conversions) if your website takes 3+ seconds to load? Not to mention that 2 seconds is the ideal time for computer websites?

Ah and speed also determines your SEO rankings on Google, both for desktop as well as mobile searches!

Then, look for e-mail accounts. Sending a business mail from [email protected] isn’t as professional as [email protected], is it? Check if any free e-mails are offered, if yes how many and if not compare the priced e-mail plans with the plans from other companies.

A website builder can never hurt. Drag & drop changed the way websites were built. So if a company offers free website builders, do consider the factor depending on your design-requirements.

You also need to consider your traffic-expectations. This will decide how much bandwidth, or what type of server do you need. Shared servers are the cheapest and suit most starter websites. However, if you expect traffic in the 6-figures, a VPS or Cloud server is what you need to go with

Because it’s a business, backups are an integral part. Make sure your host either offers free, or paid backups. Daily backups are best, if not you can also accept weekly or bi-weekly backups.

Also consider scalability. Does the company offer easy upgrades (or downgrades) if and when required? A company which offers the choice of server-locations gains an edge as well.

And finally, what are your own skills? Can you manage a server all by yourself? Does your company offer instant, 24X7 support? If you’re an absolute beginner, go with shared servers. These require the least skills and are easiest to operate.

All in all, there isn’t any perfect checklist to choose the best web hosting for small business. It’s all subjective to you as a person and your requirements.

Final Words

So that’s a wrap folks. I believe 10 is more options than you’d need, don’t you agree? Especially considering how each of these companies are the best, sooner or later you must’ve found your match.

In my personal opinion, there’s no company I can simply crown to be the best web hosting for small business. It majorly depends on your budget, and then on the project you’re trying to get online. Each project would have its specific requirements, and traffic-expectations.

Do let me know which company fits your needs, or is the best web hosting for small business according to you?
