These two charts show that the American public still has a very low opinion of the job being done by the 115th Congress -- and that low opinion crosses all political lines.
The top chart is from a new Rasmussen Poll -- done on June 28th and 29th of a random national sample of 1,000 likely voters, with a 3 point margin of error.
The bottom chart is from a new Economist / YouGov Poll -- done on July 3rd and 4th of a random national sample of 1,500 adults (including 1,323 registered voters), with a 3.1 point margin of error.
While the public wants the two parties in Congress to get together and compromise to solve the country's problems, the Congress remains mired in party ideological fights. A prime example of this is the fight over health care. The public would like to see the parties join together to fix the problems in Obamacare. Instead, the Republicans refuse to fix Obamacare and seem incapable of coming up with a plan to make healthcare better and accessible to more Americans -- and the Democrats are proposing nothing but a defense of Obamacare.
As long as the parties remain more interested in promoting their own ideology than in compromising to solve problems, the approval rating of Congress by the public will remain extremely low.
