When it comes to lipstick, there are so many tips and tricks that make the whole process–application, wearing, and removal–easier. I mean, you don’t have to end up with stained lips or lipstick that transfers! Like any make-up lover, we tend to hoard our share of lippies and consequently, are always on the lookout for game-changing tips. Here are our top 10 hacks that will tempt you to swipe on some lipstick…
Correct with concealer
Always keep a concealer handy, especially when it comes to wearing statement-making shades. Take some of it on a dense brush and use it to erase any and all mistakes that you may have made while applying lipstick.
Lip liner = Transferproof
For the ultimate transfer-proof lipstick application, don’t wear lipstick. Swipe on some lip balm and let it sit for five minutes. Dab off the excess with a tissue and then line and fill in your lips with a lip liner. Then, swipe on some lipstick if you like.
Remove with Vaseline
Tired of ruining your base make-up because switching your lipstick ended up staining your face? Well, this hack is truly life-changing. Generously apply Vaseline to your lips and let it sit for two to three minutes. Then using a gentle washcloth or napkin, swipe.
Plump up with gloss
You don’t need fillers or a plumping formula for a fuller pout. Just line your lips just outside your natural lip shape and then dab a shiny gloss or lighter lipstick in the middle of your bottom lip. Smack your lips together and you’re done!
Apply with fingers for a stained finish
Lip stains are great but if you don’t have one handy, just use lipstick. Remember to prep your lips by exfoliating and moisturising them and then dab on some color with a brush or your fingers.
Index finger method
Here’s a foolproof method to never again end up with lipstick on your teeth: After applying lipstick, pop your index finger in your mouth and pull it out. This will get rid of all the excess formula and nothing, I repeat nothing, will end up staining your teeth!
Fake brighter teeth
To camouflage yellow teeth, opt for lipsticks with blue undertones. The colours are contrasting and will neutralise each other, making your teeth appear brighter. Wondering how to pick a shade that has blue undertones? Swipe on two (or more) shades at the back of your hand and see which one is cooler in color. That’s the one you want to go for.
Try a monochrome look
If there is one make-up look you can never go wrong with, it is a monochrome look. Tap on some lipstick on your lips, lids, and cheeks for the easiest five-minute make-up look.
Create your own lip palette
Love lipsticks but can’t imagine lugging many around? Take clean contact lens cases and scoop some of your favorite lipstick in them. This hack works for bullet formulas only and is a great one to try if your lipstick breaks or melts.
Dust it to make it last
The tried and tested, golden rule: Apply lipstick, dust it with translucent powder and reapply. Your lipstick will last forever…well okay, for the whole night or day and won’t budge.
