10 Geeky Things to Look Forward to in 2016

The biggest problem with this list? Only including ten. I had to get choosey, so we started by focusing on new material rather than sequels, remakes, reboots, etc. That isn't to say they aren't worth a mention, so pop down to comments to give a shout out to geeky stuff you're excited about. Meanwhile, here's ten goodies in our future.

10. Lego Ghostbuster Fire Station (Toys)

Will you look at this thing?! Any fan of the classic film and cartoon series is going to itching to put this on their shelf. it looks big enough to park the previously released ECTO-1 inside and is packed with references to the movies, even with some slime breaking through the pavement outside. It comes with a bunch of characters including Slimer to populate the station and even has a working fireman pole! It's a hefty price tag, but might just be worth it.

9. Legends of Tomorrow (TV)

Cobbling together a team of characters from The Flash and Arrow, this new ensemble show has a much more diverse an interesting team than the shows they originated from. Firestorm, Hawkgirl, Captain Cold, Heatwave and Hawkman come from Flash while White Canary and The Atom come from Arrow, brought together by time traveller Rip Hunter ( Doctor Who 's Arthur Darvill) to fight for a better future with villains including Vandal Savage, Damien Dark and Ra's al Ghul. Should be a blast.

Cuphead is pretty far from a Triple A release making the top ten most anticipated lists, but we seriously love the visual style. Adopting the look of classic animations from the era of Ub Iwerks and Max Fleischer it looks like a super fun, original looking platform action adventure. It'll be competing with classics like Rayman and the also beautiful looking Unravelled, but we're sold on the style.

7. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (Movie)

J.K. Rowling couldn't keep herself away from the Potterverse for long. Of course one of the real draws of the series was the extended fictional world that was created around the characters, so it's exciting to see a story that focuses on exploring that aspect of the franchise. With a massive cast lead by Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne it will be interesting to see what they offer this time around.

Like I ever get through a list without breaking my own rules, but seriously...it's The X-Files. This show was a phenomenon even before the modern geek renaissance. The original team of Scully and Mulder return for a new season of stories, which hopefully capture the sense of dread and wonder that the original run created.

There's no way that title doesn't get your attention. Along with horror epic , this is one of the best looking games to come out in 2016. From one of the minds behind Cards Against Humanity, among others, it's a game of bluffing and deduction. Everyone is a member of the Liberals or Fascists, with each trying to push their own agenda to win the game. Liberals outnumber the Fascists but only the Fascists know who else is on their team, not to mention which player is secretly Hitler. If the Liberals find Hitler they can assassinate him to win quicker. Expect high tension play.

Superman vs Batman might be the big name DC movie coming out next year, but we're more excited for Suicide Squad. There's a few reasons for this - the trailer is much cooler for one thing. We've got some really funky characters coming together with some really talented actors in major roles. Most importantly though: Harley Quinn. My absolute favourite Batman villain is finally coming to screen and has the perfect actress for the part.

3. Horizon: Zero Dawn (Video Game)

This is one stylish looking original title. Set in the far future, after human civilisation has crumbled, the landscape is roamed by herds of complex, robotic dinosaur like creatures. You play as a hunter equipped with a bow and tasked with bringing in the goods needed for her primitive tribe to continue. It looks fresh and unique and we can't wait to see more of it.

Anything adapted from Neil Gaiman's writing is almost as exciting to me as...something written by Neil Gaiman. This TV series brings to life Gaiman's version of Lucifer, who appeared in The Sandman comics, putting on Earth to solve crimes and run a nightclub. The pilot episode leaked some months ago and the critical response was very positive. Tom Ellis is a great choice for the title character and we look forward to seeing how far his charm and wit can take the role.

1. Captain America: Civil War(Movie)

It's astounding that this franchise bubble hasn't burst yet. New releases Doctor Strange and Luke Cage next year stand alongside other highly anticipated Marvel adaptations Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse (as an X-Men fan I'm psyched for this one), but it's Civil War that generates the most interest. Age of Ultron was a blast but lacked an emotional connection with the audience, something Civil War can deliver in spades by pitting the characters we've been watching for years against each other. Scarlet Witch, Vision, Ant-Man, Falcon, the Winter Soldier, Agent 13 and War Machine return to pick sides with Captain America or Iron Man along with Black Widow and Hawkeye. On top of all that we have the first appearances of Black Panther, Spider-Man and someone else ...this looks HUGE.

Bring on 2016!
