10 Design Tricks to Revamp Your Home This Weekend

By Ty Watson

Want to change things up in your home, but don't have a lot of time to get into DIY projects? These great tricks and tips will get your home looking awesome without taking much time. In fact, you can do all of them this weekend.

1. Paint Your Front Door

Changing the color of your front door can bring a whole new vibe to your space. Some people feel that certain colors help promote certain things. For example, green brings wealth, while red increases passion and love in the home. Why not try something new and make your home stand out?

2. Change Your Curtains

Tired of the same old look in your windows? A quick way to give your home a revamp is to just put up new curtains. Alternatively, you can just do away with curtains altogether and opt for blinds. You'll be amazed at what such a simple change can do to your living space.

3. Rearrange Your Furniture

Sometimes all it takes to give a fresh feeling to a space is moving the furniture around. It's easy to do and lets you get a whole new perspective on things. If you have a sectional sofa, you can easily shift it around to create new furniture combinations that will really make your living room pop.

4. Add Style Accents

Get rid of the clutter in your living areas and what do you have left? If you don't already have some nice style accents, now is the time to work on that. You can choose anything from pillows and statues to things like throws and cushions to add to the sofa. Look for different textures you can use to catch the eye and stick to colors that work with your existing color scheme.

5. Restyle Your Shelves

Got an overloaded bookshelf in your home? It's time to give it a whole new look. Just take everything out, paint the back of the shelves a fun color that works with your décor and then organize everything.

For the best look, you'll have a few books and some interesting items on each bookshelf. Make sure you choose the books that work best with your theme, such as white and blue covers for a beachy theme.

6. Switch Out Your Showerhead

If you really want to make a big difference in your house, changing the showerhead will do it. Opt for a luxury model that gives you a rain shower and you won't regret it. There are a number of these on the market and most of them are surprisingly affordable. You'll feel the difference every time you go into the bathroom for a shower, so it's well worth every penny.

7. Fix the Little Things

You probably have a list of things that bug you about your house and most of these things would likely only take a few minutes to fix. Take a look around you and think about what irritates you about your home. Squeaky doors can be oiled in seconds, leaking faucets reseated in just a short period of time. You can nail down that irritating flap of carpet that always catches your foot, unstick that annoying drawer, etc. There's always something and if you get it done, you'll find that everything in life goes easier for you.

8. Replace Your Switchplates

Grab some shiny new switchplates from the hardware store and replace the ones in your house. You'll be amazed at how much better things look when there's a new switch cover. While you're at it, do the outlets, too!

9. Add More Lighting

Mood lighting is always a good way to go and if you find that the lights are lacking in a certain area of your home, why not go ahead and replace them? Add lamps, stick on lights, or even bullseye lights, if you want to get ambitious. The end result is that you'll see better and be much happier with the right lighting in the home.

10. Bring the Outdoors In

One of the fastest and best ways to make your home more welcoming is to bring in some plants. Houseplants range from flowers to lovely greenery that will spill over into the home. You can add some cacti to the kitchen windowsill, fill the living room with miniature trees, or hang some spider plants in the entry. All that greenery will really liven things up.

In just one weekend, you can make a big difference!
