10 Best Locanto Alternatives

Posted on the 03 August 2024 by Jyoti92 @Jyoti_Chauhan1

You will get the best Locanto alternatives here. These alternative websites will let you do everything you can do on Locanto, and more. In most cases, these are 100% free and at times even signing up is not required.

With more than 10 sites like Locanto here, you’re sure to find a suitable option here. If you’re new to classified ads, I’ve included a few safety and other tips at the bottom of this piece. They will help you pick the best and safest alternative.

Let’s get started then.

1. Craigslist

Best overall in all aspects.

Craigslist Best Locanto Alternative

Craiglist will probably be in every mind that ever searches for Locanto alternatives. They’re almost identical in terms of features and purpose.

Craigslist too is a classified ads site. It’s international meaning you can use it in nearly any country/state and region.

It too has a very long list of categories you can post/find jobs in. The common listings include housing/for sale/ services/community/jobs etc. Simply pick the category you need and you’ll get access to all the listings.

The listings generally include a per-hour rate as well as basic job headline. Clicking reveals more detailed information.

Accessing the site and applying for jobs is free as contact details are generally mentioned in the description. Posting a listing isn’t free. It costs about $10.00 for each category you post to.

When you post a listing, it offers impressive privacy options. You can enter your e-mail ID but there’s an option to hide your email and still receive mails. Of course, you can choose to directly display your mail as well. You can also include phone numbers but these can’t be hidden. You can however indicate if you’re okay with phone calls or text messages. Do note that this is just a suggestion and viewers may not abide by your requests.

The interface is pretty basic but that keeps things simple. You can favourite/hide/flag or share listings.

Primary features:

  • One of the oldest, most listing-rich Locanto alternatives.
  • International listings.
  • Listings in various categories.
  • Relay option for receiving e-mails without sharing email ID.
  • $10.00/category cost for new listings.
  • No signup needed for viewing listings

2. FreeAdsTime

Free Ads Time Free Locanto Alternative

Best for those who need 100% free Locanto alternative, no-signup and international options.

Guess what’s the primary USP with FreeAdsTime? It’s not that hard! Yes, it’s free! Not just viewing the ads but also posting your own ads/listings doesn’t cost any money. You can post either a classified ad/business ad or an ad for a product.

The ads aren’t just free but you can also post without even signing up! Of course signing up has benefits. You can track your ad views and modify the listing later. However, if you choose so, it does allow posting 100% anonymously without registration and that’s impressive.

Even the free ads let you attach up to 10 images. Paid plans start at $9.97 USD and offer more exposure for 30 days.

It also auto-hides your emails. Visitors can send you mails but via a contact form and never see your e-mail ID.

FreeAdsTime is also global. It’s available in nearly all the countries (yes, even China). All job/service categories are accepted. This includes vehicles, real-estate, rentals, services, pets and so on. FreeAdsTime also has one of the largest database of posted ads and now you know why!

Primary features:

  • 100% free (even posting ads).
  • No signup required.
  • E-mail privacy
  • Available in all nations.
  • Auto-hides emails
  • Very well-populated listings for most regions.

3. ClassifiedAds

classifiedads.com site like Locanto

Best for those who need free site like Locanto but with limited geo-access.

Locanto is a classified ads site. This website is literally, by any definition a site like Locanto. You’ll see a long list of available categories. These will include items for sale, vehicles, real estate, jobs, community, for rent and so on.

As for locations, it’s available (almost) everywhere. US/UK/Canada/India/Australia/Mexico can be found on the locations list. However, it doesn’t cover 100% countries on the planet.

The interface is similar to that of Locanto as well. You get a very text-based description, price, location etc.

ClassifiedAds also shows you the no. of times the ad was viewed. Yes, for all ads. You can respond to ads using the built-in form on the ads.

Anyone can post an ad, for free. No sign up required. In fact, a paid plan or add-on doesn’t even exist. You can set a price as well as an expiry date for the ad. The minimum duration is 1 week while the maximum being 9 months.

The only reason I didn’t place it above FreeAdsTime is that it doesn’t cover “all” countries.

Primary features:

  • Covers most countries (but not all).
  • 100% free for viewing/posting ads.
  • Set expiry manually, 1week-9months.
  • Covers all job and service categories.

4. Oodle

Oodle is for people living in the US/UK/Australia/Canada/India/Ireland and NewZealand. The listings are without any major restrictions and you can find pets, vehicles, services and even dating ads here.

Do note that some listings may redirect you to third-party sites, especially the dating ones. I like that the listings are type-specific. Meaning, car ads will have placeholders for mileage, VIN, make, model year etc. Similarly, the “cars” listings have filters for new/old, a price-range filter, colour etcSimilarly, if you go to the “birds” category, you’ll see breed, age and other such information. In simpler words, the listings aren’t just text or paragraph based.

Anyone can post ads but only after registration. The registration however doesn’t need an e-mail verification. Meaning, you can use any email you want to register. The problem is, you can make a new post only if you have an active Facebook account! It’s supposedly in place to reduce spam.

To make a post, you simply enter the title, description, a category and a price.

Primary features:

  • Available in 7 countries.
  • All major jobs/services available
  • Free browsing and ad replies.
  • Category-specific listings and search filters.
  • Can post ads only with an active Facebook account.

5. ListedBuy

ListedBuy is available in America Canada United Kingdom Australia Ireland New Zealand Netherlands and Deutschland. While it’s an impressive list, it doesn’t cover the entire globe.

As for jobs and services, you can find cars, boats, bikes, jewellery, baby items, bags and luggage etc.

The classified ad site is extremely listing-rich. Each U.S location I’ve tried has at least 10,000+ listings. Some even have 100K+. It even has an “alert” feature you can set for new ads in any category you want.

You can browse for free but contacting listers often requires signup. The exception being when the listing agent may have included contact details in the listing description.

Posting ads is free (signup required). It has a mandatory “atleast 1 image” policy which I hated. Do note that ads aren’t instantly posted but are reviewed and only posted if approved.

Primary features:

  • Available in 8 countries.
  • All jobs/services listed.
  • Extremely listing-rich
  • No signup required for browsing
  • Free but signup required for posting ads.
  • Listings need approval.

6. BedPage

Best Locanto alternative if you need the most scam-free environment

BedPage is one of the US-only sites like Locanto. It’s available throughout the United States. Listings aren’t restricted for any individual category. It does include adult and dating services as well. Non-adult listings include books, vehicles, pets, children, sports and everything else. Point being, you can post a job just about anything on BedPage, or look for a job regardless of which industry/niche you work in.

You can browse the listings without signing up. If you wish to post a listing, you must sign up. BedPage only allows logging in via a Google account. You can’t enter any other e-mail.

BedPage is extremely safe in terms of scammers. That’s because on top of the sign up, you’ll need to “verify” your account. This requires government IDs, selfie video and a bit more information.

Alternatives to Locanto

To top it all up, there’s a $500 deposit requirement to start using the service!

Primary features:

  • Only U.S based
  • Free /no-signup browsing for viewers
  • Posting ads requires a $500 deposit + identity verification
  • All job categories available

If you liked Bedpage, here are some more Bedpage alternatives you may like.

7. YesBackpage

Best Site like Locanto for US/UK/Aus and Canada users.

YesBackpage is obviously a Backpage alternative. If you need a Locanto alternative that also has adult listings, YesBackpage is your answer. Signing up isn’t required to browse ads.

YesBackpage is available in the US, UK, Canada and Australia. You can browse it from anywhere however these are the nations you’ll get listings for.

So, YesBackpage is a classified ads site that lets users post an ad for just about everything.

Popular categories include escorts, dating services, vehicles, real-estate, gigs, community, dozens of services etc.

Listing is free by default. However, they’re only valid for 20 days. After 20 days, you can repost the listing manually. You can also pay $10.00 for 10 days of extra listing or $20.00 for a 30 days extension.

It does offer paid add-ons with the listings. You can get “featured”. These ads start at $3.00 (3 days) and go up to $10.00 (15 days). Features ads are shown at the top when users visit your region and listing category.

Primary features:

  • US/UK/Canada and Australia listings.
  • No signup for viewing.
  • Posting listings is free, optional paid add-ons.
  • Covers all job and service categories.

You can even glance at our list of Yesbackpage alternatives for more options.

8. eBackpage

eBackpage is almost a direct clone of Backpage. This makes it a very similar site to Locanto. The site only accommodates US users. I mean sure you can browse it from anywhere but the listings are all in the U.S.

There’s no restrictions on what can or can’t be listed (the legal stuff, of course). I found just about everything. This includes Antiques, home & garden, real estate, sport and everything else in between.

The site is pretty old and established at this point. This is why its lack of listings did surprise me! Posting ads requires signup, and alike Bedpage, it only accepts Gmail signups.

Also, ads can only be posted after a full ID verification which would require documents and selfies. Yes, the $500 deposit too is mandatory.

Primary features:

  • U.S-only
  • Almost all primary jobs/services available
  • Browsing is free, posting ads requires an account.
  • Account needs to be ID verified.
  • Requires $500 deposit for accounts to be activated.

9. H1Ad

H1Ad is available in 7 countries. Namely, US/UK/India/Canada/Australia/Philippines/ and even Pakistan.

The interface is slightly more icon-based and modern than many other Locanto alternatives you may have seen here.

It has 5 specific categories. Real estate, services, jobs, vehicles ,and “for sale”.

My only problem with H1Ad is its pretty large popup ads. Sure they can be ignored but they do add to the confusion.

Listings are mostly text-only with a few images. I did love its contact options though. You can browse for free on most of these sites. But, H1Ad also lets you contact the seller for free. No signup needed. Simply use the form to enter your e-mail where you’d like the response and send.

It also allows posting ads for free. Again, signups aren’t required, not even for posting ads. 4 images are allowed for free. Ads aren’t posted instantly rather they’re reviewed first by the team.

Primary features:

  • Available in 7 countries.
  • 100% free, both for viewing and publishing ads.
  • No signups mandatory for viewing/posting ads.
  • Also allows contacting ads without signup.
  • 5 job/service categories.

10. Hoobly

Hoobly has marked its presence in 23 countries. This covers not only 1st world nations but also India, Thailand, Iran and basically most of the places you may be interested in.

The product/service categories include art, business, home & garden, vehicle, pet, real estate and so on.

The interface couldn’t be simpler. You get a title, description and the item price. Signup isn’t required to browse ads or even to contact people. I’ve almost always found people inserting their contact info in the descriptions. Of course if you use the official “respond to the ad” button that would  require a sign up.

Scams can be reduced if you pay attention to the “member since” label for each user. With each listing you’ll see how old the user account is. Older accounts are generally less likely to be scammers.

Primary features:

  • Available in 23 countries.
  • All jobs and services allowed.
  • Signup not required for browsing.
  • Very transparent listings and user history.

What factors to consider when picking the best Locanto alternatives?

There are hundreds of classified ad sites out there. Which factors play a decisive role when picking the best of these alternatives:

  • Locations: Check if the alternative is available for your country/region. These platforms generally have strict geo-restrictions and may not be international.
  • Signup: Most of these websites like Locanto will allow a no-signup experience. Some even allow posting ads without registrations. However, there may be exceptions. Do note that signing up has its benefits and reduces spam/scam on the platform.
  • Identity verification: Very rarely one of these options will ask for ID verification. These will be the most scam-free options but the hardest and most time consuming to sign up for. You must choose between convenience and safety.
  • Price: Some options will ask for payment while others will be free. You make the choice depending on your budget.
  • Type of ads: Some of these sites like Locanto allow/restrict specific types of ads. The restrictions specifically come in for adult/dating ads. Based on what you’re looking for, this will impact your decision.

How to stay safe on sites like Locanto?

The ads on these sites are posted by individuals/groups. Hence, you must be careful when getting in touch. There’s no guarantee that the listing, or the user is legit. Hence, here are a few tips that will help you and your money stay safe:

  • Never pay in advance. No matter how good the deal is. No matter how many people have viewed an ad. NEVER make an advance payment.
  • Never pay for shipping. It’s a common scam. You may pay for shipping if you get a tracking ID and verify that the contents are what you’re purchasing.
  • When hiring someone for a job/service, do a background check. At least ask for documentation. You never know who’s behind a screen.
  • Before making payment for the item, verify the contents of the package. You may sometimes get packages but they may not contain what you ordered.
  • When meeting someone for a deal, pick a public place and avoid night time. Always share your location with someone and if possible go with friends.
