Fruitive Tanvii.com This post is in collaboration with Fruitive. All opinions mentioned are my own.

Fruitive was conceptualized in the fall of 2011 by Gregg Rozeboom. His goal was to have a restaurant where his family could eat the highest quality, healthiest, and 100% plant-based food available. He, along with his dad and brother Bruce, turned their dream into reality when Fruitive opened in May 2012.

Now five years later, they have four location around DMV area and gained a reputation as a community-focused organization. Fruitive's passion to bring organic options to the market has led them to become a Certified Organic restaurant in Virginia and Washington, DC.

What is a juice cleanse?
Juice cleansing is a “detox” diet that can last from three days to a few weeks in which a person consumes only fruit and vegetable juices to obtain nutrition while otherwise abstaining from eating food. Some of the benefits people experience post the cleanses are improvement to digestive health, mood, skin and over all appearance.

Who should do a juice cleanse?
Let's keep it real. Our bodies are naturally built to detoxify. We do not necessarily 'require' cleansing. The cleanse is not magic. There are no permanent results. However, it is a good way to shift away from bad habits (like too much coffee, alcohol, and junk foods) and help foster healthier habits. Since most juice cleanses eliminate dairy, wheat, and gluten from the diet, one can assess whether any of these foods don’t agree with your body. And then slowly reintroducing them can help define which foods are causing problems for your body. But more about that later.

How to prepare for a juice cleanse?
One of the key steps in the cleanse is the preparation for it. You can maximize the benefits of your cleanse by taking a few days to prepare. Take 3-4 days in your pre-cleanse elimination phase to rid your body of remnants of too much caffeine, alcohol or processed foods.

Drinking water is also an important first step in preparing for your juice cleanse. Start introducing more fruits and vegetables into your routine. In the 1-2 days before your cleanse begins, aim to eat a strictly plant-based diet, i.e. no meat, no eggs, or dairy products.

Think about these questions before you start your cleanse: Why are you doing it? What results are you aiming for? How will you stay committed to the cleanse? Setting an intention will help you mentally prepare for the challenge.

What to expect during a juice cleanse? I do not wish to set unrealistic expectations. Cleanse is hard. It is equally challenging both mentally and physically. When consuming only fruits and vegetables via a juice cleanse, there is a decrease in the amount of calories being consumed. Without enough calories and energy, you could feel weak, have headaches, or have low energy. The lack of sodium could make some people feel lightheaded.

Our bodies are 70% water. When you eat a low-calorie diet, you lose the water weight. This result, however is temporary! You will gain that water weight right back once you return to your normal diet.
Although juicing doesn't actually shrink the stomach, it does temporarily eliminate the possibility to eat for comfort. The positive of this is that you will feel satisfied with less food than usual, immediately after you’re done with the cleanse. This is the psychological boost that some people (aka I) need to experience so that they can change their eating behaviors and stop sabotaging their healthy lifestyle.

But beware: Hanger is real. Your blood sugar will spike from drinking the juice, and then it will crash and lead to mood swings.

What to do after the cleanse? Ease into solid foods post-cleanse. Now is a time to stick to your new eating habits. Take this opportunity to incorporate healthier dietary and lifestyle choices. Listen to your body. Take the time to ease into your sweat-inducing workouts. Remember your cleanse experience, and try to incorporate it into your new daily regimen.

Which is the best juice cleanse?
The healthiest juice cleanse is the one that combine juices from a variety of sources: fruits, veggies, nuts, etc. and where the produce is sourced from local farmers and organic suppliers, cold-pressed juices are housed in glass and full of raw nutrients, natural sweeteners are minimally processed, organic alternatives to traditional sugar, and products are always guaranteed to be 100% plant-based. Enter: Fruitive -FRUITIVE PHILOSOPHY - LIVE YOUR HEALTH. Bottomline:
As long as you keep it short and don't have underlying health problems there is an unlikely chance for any side effects. Nonetheless, is you are not sure or have prior health complications, please consult your doctor before doing a cleanse.
