World's First QR Code Coin

World's First QR Code Coin
A QR code (Quick Response code) is a two-dimensional matrix bar code that is used to identify products. It can store up to 4,296 alphanumeric or 7,089 numeric characters. The Royal Dutch Mint has produced a limited edition of QR Coded coins to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Mint in the Netherlands.
The silver 5€ and the gold 10€ will be issued on June 22, 2011 when the Mint promises that if you scan the code 'You will be surprised at what you'll see.' At the time of writing the code scans to a non-mobile site of the Royal Dutch Mint. It will be interesting to see just how scannable the code really is in practice, given that the larger of the two coins is only 33 mm in diameter.
