I was chatting to someone recently and we were talking about when a baby stops being a baby, and starts being a toddler. I've heard a few different answers 1// at 1 year old 2// when they can start to walk (toddle!) 3// at 14 months.
So when would you say a baby stops being a baby and becomes a toddler?
I don't think it can be when they can walk - even though that would make the most sense! I know a baby who walked at 9 months, and 9 months is still very much a baby if you ask me! And what about kids who don't walk until 18 months (it happens!). Are they still a baby until then?
So I suppose it's age related. A year? 14 months? When does this toddler time begin? When is my little baby going to stop being my little baby, and start being a crazy toddler? She can certainly toddle already, and I did refer to her as 'my toddler' the other day (because nobody would believe a baby could press an emergency button TWICE, but a toddler could!) but in so many ways she is still such a tiny baby.
I was pretty amused at this definition of toddler, from the ever informative Urban Dictionary:
1. toddlerTiny bipolar humans under the age of 3, who can swing rapidly between endearingly cute antics and screaming, kicking, biting fits of rage. Completely unpredictable and often unintelligible lovable little walking blessings/nightmares disguised as tiny human beings with giant heads. Prone to selective hearing and repeating overheard curse words at inopportune moments. More dangerous when traveling in packs. Evolutionarily speaking, it is ridiculous that humans have the ability to reproduce fast enough to be the parent of more than one toddler at a time.
So it's open to the floor - when does a baby stop being a baby?
