Vintage ~~ Attic Treasure

By Vintagefrenchchic

As you know, I live in old house.  It was built in 1838 (just typing that looks weird).  For four years I have hoped to find some hidden treasure…either in the attic or the scary basement.  Of course, I’m not the one who will be crawling around in these dark, murky places.  Oh heck no.  I have been patiently waiting for something to happen that would call upon my husband’s savvy maintenance skills.  Due to relentless snows, we have had some nasty ice dams form on the roof over the attic space which has prompted Brett to buy and lay more insulation in the attic.  Yippee!  My tall order was to bring me back (as if he was adventuring in the Yukon) some sort of treasure.  Preferably the paper sort (thinking someone may have hidden wads of cash during the Depression)…or jewels.  Well, lo and behold, a paper treasure was found…

…a newspaper.

Not exactly what I had in mind and curses to all those happy fools on the “Antiques Roadshow”.  Yet, my little inner Pollyanna couldn’t help but find some joy in the found treasure.

The newspaper is the February 20, 1928 issue of the Grand Rapids Press.  So what was it like to live then?

Tragedies still happened.

Unfortunately the newspaper is pathetic shape.  It practically disintegrates when touched.  But now that I have digitally captured it, it can live on in infamy.

Have you ever found an amazing treasure hidden in your home?  Was it worth more than blog post?
