Vienna Amber Lager – Moody Ales

By Mike @mikescraftbeer

From Moody Ales out of Port Moody comes their "Vienna Amber Lager". The beer pours a deep amber colour with a tan head. The aroma consists of caramel malts, mild fruit and floral hops. The flavour is of caramel, grainy malts, mild fruit, some resin and a very mild bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 5.5% with an IBU of 19. If you enjoy a good lager then you should pick this one up.

Commercial Description: Robyn, who created our Vienna lager recipe, likes to pair this beer with bratwurst. Sho, another Moody Ales brewer, prefers it with carnitas. Makes sense-this style, originally developed in Vienna in the 1840s, lost popularity in Europe over the nineteenth century but thrived in Mexico with Austrian emigrant brewers. So, as you enjoy our malt-forward yet clean amber lager, remember that from Austria to Mexico to Canada, pork and beer unite us all.
