True Blood’s Anna Paquin in Red Women’s Magazine

Anna Paquin RedWith True Blood just finishing its fifth season, Anna Paquin, who plays telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse, is free to focus on her new role – being a mom.  Paquin, who gave birth to twins in September, talked with Red Magazine about working with real life husband Stephen Moyer, turning 30 and the much talked about gap in her teeth.

Its no secret when you see Paquin in those super short shorts and tight shirts on True Blood that the actress works out.  One of the ways she keeps fit is by boxing.  You may not immediately think of a boxer when you see her, but according to Paquin she has been doing it for years:

I’ve boxed for years – I love it.  I don’t think it’s going out on a limb to say girls get angry, angsty and frustrated, too, so it’s good to have a healthy… release. You have to have a bit of a sick desire to experience pain. It’s exhausting, it’s so hard. But I’m a fitness junkie, so anything that isn’t hard is kind of boring for me.

Another reason to keep fit is the fact that Paquin spends a great deal of screen time with little or no clothes on.  She tells the magazine that the nudity doesn’t phase her and that on True Blood it is done in a creative way.  She points out that their target audience is not teenagers and a large part of adult lives involves sex and sexuality.  When asked about those intense scenes she shoots with Moyer, she says:

There is a fine line between what we do and what adult actors do.  But we have the Cock Sock that goes around the boys’ bits. It’s a little modesty pouch and they put everything inside there, and it gets tied up. So it’s all very appropriate and professional. And there’s the little patch that goes over the lady bits, basically a thong with the sides cut out of it, which you tape to yourself. Which is not massively pleasant, but it certainly draws clean lines around what they can and cannot show on camera. And it’s not just for the comfort of the actors: the crew don’t want to see more than they absolutely have to. I think it’s kind of polite, y’know?

After getting her start in movies at the age of nine when she was cast in ‘The Piano’, the movie that ultimately won her an Academy Award, Paquin has worked fairly steadily since then.  Her biggest part came when she was cast as Rogue in ‘X-Men’, but she continued to focus on school work and remaining true to who she was.  She tells the magazine that had she allowed her grades to drop or become an unbearable brat, her parents would have immediately made her quit acting.

During her adolescence Paquin came to realize that she was bi-sexual.  She says that it was not an Oh my God moment, but that it was just part of who she is.  She kept that part of her life private until 2010 when she appeared in an ad for Give A Damn.  As for those people who question how she can be married to a man while she is bi-sexual, Paquin says that she is a very happily married woman and she doesn’t let the opinions of others bother her.  She is just living her life.

Paquin and Moyer are fiercely protective of the privacy of their twins and Moyer’s two children.  At this time they still have not released any information about the babies such as whether they are boys or girls and what their names are.  According to Paquin the privacy of the kids is sacred to them but she does talk about being a working mother.  She acknowledges that she has the means to be able to afford help with the kids and that you will never hear her complaining about having a full-time job.

Speaking of Moyer, Paquin says that the two are best-friends:

If you’re going to spend the rest of your life with someone, you want it to be the person you want to hang out with all the time. We have a lot in common but, when it comes down to it, if that person isn’t really your buddy as well, for me, I don’t think that would work. And we spend all our time together. A lot of people say, “Oh, I could never work with my significant other”, but I love getting to go to work with the person I want to spend all my time with.

Anna recently turned 30 and she found herself watching some of her friends with amusement.  Some of them felt like 30 was the end of their youth, but Paquin had been working full-time for 21 years so adulthood didn’t scare her as much.  One topic that garners a lot of attention is the gap in Anna’s teeth.  She says this is from her palette being split down the middle so braces wouldn’t fix it.  When asked if she would consider surgery to fix the gap, Paquin says that she is currently not interested in any self renovation projects, as she has enough going on in her life.  She also says she’s not sure why there is such a fascination, especially since she’s not a person that smiles a lot anyways.
