Top 10 – Films I Caught Up With In 2013

Posted on the 07 January 2014 by Caz @LetsGoToTheMov7

Back for the second year looking at the top 10 films I am now pleased to add to my watched list. It may surprise you that some of the films on this list I only watched for the first time EVER in 2013! Some are those that I may have just caught up with from recent years thanks to Netflix having some hidden gems of films which may not have been out long at the cinema.

They aren’t actually listed in any particular order in terms of quality of the film, just picked a top 10 out of how ever many new films I watched over the year. Some may have been missed if I didn’t review them on the blog. But that is part of the reason for blogging reviews to keep track of the films I have watched. You will find a few words to go with each film and also a link to the full review from after I watched the film!

10. My Cousin Vinny (1992) Review

Top 10 – Films I Caught Up With In 2013

Now I love a good court room film and this one adds the right amount of comedy to it, it really manages to be a fun film but with also having the drama side of it as well. Not forgetting the fantastic performances.

9. 50/50 (2011) Review

Top 10 – Films I Caught Up With In 2013

This was one I missed seeing at the cinema on its release and was very disappointed about it, especially when I am sure we went to see Dream House when we missed the start of this one! It really is a different take on cancer and Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogan have a fantastic on-screen friendship it really is a good watch and makes you think about cancer.

8. The Game (1997) Review

I thought some of the ideas in this film were just brilliant and it’s probably something we see more of in films now. It has you on edge and Michael Douglas delivers a brilliant performance.

7. The Bone Collector (1999) Review

Top 10 – Films I Caught Up With In 2013

I am pretty sure I hadn’t watched this film until 2013 as I thought it was totally different to what it actually is. If that makes much sense? But the performances and twists in the story really make this one a worthwhile watch.

6. Ted (2012) Review

Top 10 – Films I Caught Up With In 2013

Another I missed at the cinema and I have it on this list so that I can now say that I have seen it. However, I really did not like it or care for it at all. I had heard it was the funniest film ever and maybe from a male point of view it is funny. I just found it crude and pretty awful, but pleased I caught up with it.

5. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) Review

Top 10 – Films I Caught Up With In 2013

I had never felt the urge to watch Anchorman but with the second film coming out at the end of 2013 I decided it was time to watch it. I think I had been right in my reason for not watching it. Wasn’t my type of thing at all, but again pleased to now have my own opinion on it.

4. Born on the Fourth of July (1989) Review

Top 10 – Films I Caught Up With In 2013

An incredible story and performance from Tom Cruise made this an easy choice to add into this list and pleased I have now seen this film. It really is a brilliant journey, sad and difficult to watch at times but it really is moving from start to finish.

3. Shame (2011) Review

Top 10 – Films I Caught Up With In 2013

A difficult watch but brilliant performance and shows that sex isn’t always a good thing. It can be a horrible addiction as well which makes people’s everyday life pretty unbearable. Fassbender really bared it all (in more than one way) in this film. Pleased I’ve seen it but can’t really imagine watching it again.

2. Jaws (1975) Review

Top 10 – Films I Caught Up With In 2013

Yes I am ashamed to say that 2013 was the first time I ever watched Jaws! Honestly I really have no explanation on why I had not seen it before. I don’t even know myself, so pleased I can now understand how frightening the music is and why you think twice about running into the water.

1. A Clockwork Orange (1971) Review

Top 10 – Films I Caught Up With In 2013

Now this one your probably thinking the same about not seeing Jaws until 2013. But I was actually pretty scared to watch A Clockwork Orange, I had heard so many things about it and with the rape scene. I eventually got rid of that fear and watched the film, it is an incredible film because of all the different things it makes you feel. It probably makes you think and feel things no other film does. I don’t intend to ever watch this film again, it was a rather traumatising experience!

Are you impressed and/or shocked with some of the films on this list, that it took me until 2013 to actually watch???
