The Wooden Sky Bring an Air of Melancholy and Frustration to ‘Black Gold’ [Premiere]

The Wooden Sky definitely brought some melancholy to their newest album Swimming in Strange Waters, out 4/7. Though, with the chaos permeating the world, it’s no surprise. The newest track from the forthcoming record ‘Black Gold’ continues in the vein of previously released tracks, creating a textured and grandiose soundscape that ebbs and flows beautifully. It’s full of haunting sounds and singer Gavin Gardiner’s voice grounds the track while adding the extra layer frustration that makes it so potent. Of the song, Gardiner says:

“I wrote this song after reading an article about the Keystone XL pipeline.  I was so frustrated and felt like there was nothing I could do, so I did the only thing I knew how which was to write a song about that feeling.  Damn the river, bring a knife.  Sort of a call to arms that we each have the responsibility to take care of each other and stand up for things we believe in.  Now more then ever the constant barrage of information can feel paralyzing but it doesn’t have to be, positivity will snowball and we can each play a roll in that.”
