The Top 10 Most Densely Populated Places in the WorldThe Top 10 Most Densely Populated Places in the World

This post is not about countries with the highest population count, it is about population per square mile. So in smaller countries, it doesn’t need to be a high population, just a lot of them living in a small area. But no matter what way you look at it, there is sill some odd names in this list…

The Top 10 Most Densely Populated Places in the World

Rwanda Population DensityRwanda Population Density

10 – Rwanda (Population Density per km2: 428)

Wiki Info: Population density is a measurement of population per unit area or unit volume; it is a quantity of type number density.

South Korea Population DensitySouth Korea Population Density

9 – South Korea (Population Density per km2: 517)

Wiki Info: It is frequently applied to living organisms, and most of the time to humans. It is a key geographical term. But it can also be about animals and plants.

Lebanon Population DensityLebanon Population Density

8 – Lebanon (Population Density per km2: 597)

Wiki Info: Population density is population divided by total land area or water volume, as appropriate.

Mauritius Population DensityMauritius Population Density

7 – Mauritius (Population Density per km2: 631)

Wiki Info: Low densities may cause an extinction vortex and lead to further reduced fertility. This is called the Allee effect after the scientist who identified it. Examples of the causes in low population densities include increased problems with locating sexual mates and increased inbreeding.

Taiwan Population DensityTaiwan Population Density

6 – Taiwan (Population Density per km2: 646)

Wiki Info: For humans, population density is the number of people per unit of area, usually quoted per square kilometer or square mile (which may include or exclude, for example, areas of water or glaciers)

Bangladesh Population DensityBangladesh Population Density

5 – Bangladesh (Population Density per km2: 1095)

Wiki Info: The world’s population is around 7,000,000,000 and Earth’s total area (including land and water) is 510,000,000 square kilometers (197,000,000 sq. mi.)

Bahrain Population DensityBahrain Population Density

4 – Bahrain (Population Density per km2: 1873)

Wiki Info: If only the Earth’s land area of 150,000,000 km2 (58,000,000 sq. mi.) is taken into account, then human population density increases to 47 per km2 (120 per sq. mile).

Gaza Strip Population DensityGaza Strip Population Density

3 – Gaza Strip (Population Density per km2: 5045)

In comparison, based on a world population of seven billion, the world’s inhabitants, as a loose crowd taking up ten square feet per person, would occupy a space a little larger than the UK!

Hong Kong Population DensityHong Kong Population Density

2 – Hong Kong (Population Density per km2: 6553)

Wiki Info: Over half of the Earth’s land mass consists of areas inhospitable to human habitation, such as deserts and high mountains, and population tends to cluster around seaports and fresh-water sources.

Singapore Population DensitySingapore Population Density

1 – Singapore (Population Density per km2: 7698)

Wiki Info: Several of the most densely populated territories in the world are city-states, microstates, and dependencies. These territories have a relatively small area and a high urbanisation level, with an economically specialised city population drawing also on rural resources outside the area, illustrating the difference between high population density and overpopulation.
