The Too Much TV Roundup- June 20th

Posted on the 21 June 2022 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

A bit of a mixed bag today. Definitely a wider range of quality than on Sunday.

1) Outer Range (amazon)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

Things really heated up in this episode. The interim sSheriff showed she’s a lot smarter than people give her credit for, Royal threatened the land commissioner who clearly did not feel threatened, and someone else now knows about the black hole. That was definitely a way to end that episode. I thought Will Payton was going into the hole, but turns out… well I’ll find out next week. This is what TV watching should be. Cliffhangers that you can’t just immediately resolve.

Episode Grade: A

2) Last Week Tonight (HBo/HBO MAX)

English Audio Description Available?: No

This week, John focused mainly on the housing crisis, centering on rentals, and I found it to be entertaining and informative. Exactly what this should be.

Episode Grade: A

3) The Flight Attendant (HBO MAX)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

I don’t know why we got a new narrator for the finale, that was odd. But, this show is over. It hasn’t been officially cancelled, but after reading Cuoco’s thoughts on a third season, plus seeing how nice and tight it got wrapped up, I’d be shocked if a third season happened. Maybe, but it’s a long shot. She doesn’t really want to do it. And I can’t blame her. I feel like Cassy’s story came full circle, and her story was told. Not every show needs 10 seasons, or six seasons and a movie.

Episode Grade: A

4) Barry (HBo/HBO MAX)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

So, this episode made some sense to me… despite the fact that I noticed only when it was all over that HBO MAX decided I did not need to see the third episode, and jumped me from 2 to 4, which has never happened before. No wonder I was left head scratching. But considering I’ve been doing a lot of that already because of the huge gap in the time it took to make season 3, I just thought it was par for the course. Henry Winkler is still giving a tremendous performance, and Bill Hader is pretty great too.

Episode Grade: A-

5) Life and Beth (Hulu)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

I usually rank this show lower, because I haven’t been enjoying the relationship Beth spent episodes developing. But in the 7th episode, her ex boyfriend came back like a wrecking ball of idiocy, and Michael Rappaport saved the entire damn show. Why this show doesn’t have him in more episodes blows my mind. He’s so good. It’s a shame he likely won’t be nominated for either of his Emmy worthy roles this past year, in either this or Atypical.

Episode Grade: B+

6) Queer As Folk (Peacock)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

I don’t really know what to say or do with this show anymore. It’s all over the place. Some of it works, some of it doesn’t.

Episode Grade: B-

7) Tokyo Vice (HBO MAX)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

I really wanted to love this show. I really wanted to get into michael Mann’s new show, but I think the fact that he’s planning this not as a limited series, but a full on multi-season run is what is causing this to move so damn slow.

Episode Grade: C+
