Plot: A picaresque journey through the cities and woods of the Eastern seaboard of the U.S undertaken by Lillian, a high school senior from South Carolina. She gets her first glimpse of the wider world on a class trip to Washington, D.C.

Story: The Sweet East starts when high school student Lillian (Ryder) attends a school trip to Washington DC. She quickly leaves the group to explore the city and starts meeting different groups of people. First, Caleb (Cave) is part of a rebellious group of protestors. She moves on to a new group where Lawrence (Rex) welcomes her in.

As Lillian continues to explore, she finds herself traveling around the country and meeting different people. She is running and doesn’t want to be found, as each person she meets, offers her a different life lesson.

Verdict on The Sweet East

The Sweet East is an adventure drama following a teenage girl who decides to run away from home and explore America. It follows her meeting a host of different people who explore life differently. However, she is unaware of the damage she has caused by running away.

This explores the different cultures in America through the eyes of a teenage girl on the run. While it can show the extremes of these lives, which causes a string of wild adventures for Lillian. Talia Ryder is wonderful in the leading role. Along with a supporting cast of actors who have recently become even bigger stars including Jacob Elordi and Ayo Edebiri. This might not be for everyone, but the adventures offer a unique approach to seeing America.
