The Sunday Rumble: 16.11.14

By Davidduff

Re-scheduling the re-scheduled schedule:  As you will have realised there has been something of a hiatus here at D&N this morning for which I apologize.  Alas, I only have a relatively brief interlude this afternoon to produce my usual 'Sunday rumble'.  Next week, I am off to 'Londinium' for lunch at the Dorchester.  No, 'Dim Dave' didn't invite me in order to pick my brains (I do the jokes round here!), it was the idea of an old and dear friend to help the 'Memsahib' and I to celebrate our 'Big Year'.  I think I mentioned before that part of our trip over Wednesday and Thursday will include a visit to the Rembrant exhibition.  However, I gather that Harrods, John Lewis and sundry other hugely expensive department stores are scheduled - quelle horreure!

So Vlad vlounces, or perhaps, Flad flounces:  Whatever, Vlad has picked up his ball and gone off home to Mummy Russia because all the big boys in the playground were being rude to him.  Good riddance, say I, and I snorted with derision when I read that Vlad had arranged for four Russian warships to be parked off Australia during his visit.  It simply concinces me that Vlad has a very tiny willy!

The price of oil keeps dropping, should I cheer or weep?   It depends which economic brainbox I read last.  That's the problem with economics, there is never a clear winner or loser until after the event as the survivors rake through the wreckage!  Of course, personally, I am delighted of the price of diesel drops and leaves me a little better off at the end of each month.  However, had I been a money-lender/investor to the American shale oil industry, an enterprise I thoroughly support,  I would require a good supply of clean underwear because if the price of crude oil drops much more those loans and investments are going to be worthless and the industry will crash.  No time now to go into the details but keep your eyes open.  The only good news is that the Russians will suffer even more!

More rumbles later . . .
