I finished Sexy Beast (Paramount Plus), and I’m not sure the world needed that. I really do want to rewatch the film, since it has been so long, it just doesn’t have audio description. I think the audio description for Sexy Beast really did try and get with the general dirtiness of the series, and I appreciated that attention to detail. It’s hard to describe a non-porn show that is so much about the porn industry.
I also got through an episode of Avatar: The LAst Airbender (Netflix) that really gave more backstory to Zuko, making him seem more sympathetic as a character. This isn’t a top tier audio description show, but it’s the tier right below that. Like on planes, when you have the common folk in the back with the crying babies, and Beyoncé in first class, and then there’s “business class”, or whatever your airline calls it. It is that. Comfortable, nice, and there isn’t a man taking his shoes off next to you.
I also got through another episode of The New Look (Apple Plus), which gave Coco an outburst “you people” moment that was deeply unfortunate, and now I will forever judge all those who wear Chanel No. 5. Still, this series is turning out way better than expected, and it has really solid, business class audio description. I can’t shake the fact that it is a show about two fashion designers that rarely references what people are wearing, but the rest of it seems fine.
