Original Air Date: 6 October 2011

Storyline: Cassie looks up an old friend of her mother's named Heather Barnes and discovers she has been in a catatonic state since the night of the fire 16 years ago. Feeling guilty that her mother may have had something to do with Heather's current state, Cassie tells Diana that she wants to use magic to help Heather. Diana refuses to help, but Faye is more than happy to conjure up a spell - for a price.Trivia: The license plate on Cassie's SUV is Washington plate #679 M1A.Best Quote:

Nick: Some things should be done without magic.

Review: As the show is getting better when it comes to action and we're finally diving into the supernatural with the appearance of the first demon, I feel like the cast - more specifically Britt Robertson, whom I've been praising in the beginning - is losing some of the charm and the ability to give the character naturalism and realism. Maybe it was just this episode, though, I'm not ready to give up on her just yet.

Just as most of the viewers were complaining about the show being slow-paced, this episode came to change that perception. And, surprisingly enough, the episode did not feature any of the adults, with the exception of Heather and her brother.
Cassie is adamant to discover what happened with her mother's friend Heather and accepts Adam's help first to pay a visit to her brother, then to create a magic potion that would undo the spell put on Heather by Amelia, but what they initially thought to be some kind of punishment was actually a seal meant to keep the demon that had taken possession of Heather's body inside.
So, despite Diana's opposition - she is clearly the voice of reason, but her cautiousness will get old eventually, since what we really want to see from a show like this is lots and lots of magic and other supernatural stuff -, Cassie convinces Faye, who wants nothing more than to look at her Book of Shadows, to help0 her do the spell, unknowingly releasing the demon Amelia tried do hard to keep away. For once, we see some bonding between Faye and Cassie, but I'm not so ready to jump at the opportunity of declaring Faye completely redeemed. But I kind of agree with her: what's the point of being a witch if you can't do spells for yourself, especially when you find yourself alone and attacked by something dangerous?
As for releasing the demon, for once we get some serious action scenes, though they didn't involve magic. The special effects were those of a TV show, not very well done, but I'll get over that. I'm more interested to see how this continues, with the demon taking possession of one of the Circle's members.
Speaking of the Circle, the relationship between Melissa and Nick is quickly turning into 90210. I know this is a teen show and all (speaking of which, aren't these guys supposed to be in high school? There's a lot of sexual activity going on...), but I just wish the focus would be more on the supernatural than on the romantic. Also, it kind of makes me wonder if Melissa and Nick are really witches, since all we see them do is hook up.
And talking about hooking up, how long do you think it will take before Cassie and Adam forget all about Diana? He's surely very eager to be around Cassie and Diana is very willing to push them together...
It was good to see this show picking up the pace, I hope it can keep up in the following episodes. The decision of whether it will be picked up for a full season or cut loose is still to be made, but ratings are decent so it might get a chance. The Secret Circle 1x03: Loner Back to Season 1
