It's enough to make you weep. After one of the most incompetent socialist administrations for decades in Washington the Republican party, or part of it, seems determined to ignore the enemy and instead concentrate its fire on its friends. To find the 'Warmonger-in-Chief' you need look no further than the malignant Karl Rove. He claims to be a Republican but, as Jeffrey Lord reminds us in an article at The American Spectator (alas, I can only read page 1 because it will not switch to page 2), when Gove was deputy Chief of Staff to George "read my lips" Bush his conservative achievements were vanishingly tiny, although his 'Big Government' sympathies were well advanced:
Left unsaid was the fact that once upon a time, when Mr. Rove himself was the White House Deputy Chief of Staff in the Bush 43 era, the GOP did in fact have control of the House and Senate both.
Was, to pick one example, the Department of Education abolished? No. In fact, Mr. Rove boasts in his memoirs of expanding the Department with the passage of No Child Left Behind, legislation that was passed by partnering with then-Senator Ted Kennedy, the “Liberal Lion” of the Senate. And oh yes, a GOP Congressman named…John Boehner.
The point about Karl Rove and his ilk is that there is no point! They don't have a point, or a policy, let alone a philosophy, they are simply in it for the sake of being in it, and as they see it, there is no point being in it unless you are elected to government and thus are allowed to get your greasy hands on the levers. Neither does it matter whether, once you have the power, you pull or push those levers, just being there is all that counts. This is in contrast to the Democrat party which, whilst it has its fair share of 'free riders', is hog-tailed by an ideological cult determined a) to get rich themselves (well, this is America!) and b) to change forever the liberties that have hitherto kept some slight space between overweening Federal ambitions and individual rights.
Rove and his cohorts are determined to destroy the Reagonite Right wing of the Republican party and he has set up various front organisations backed by several of the biggest contributers to the GOP whose sole aim is to influence nomination procedures to ensure that only RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) are chosen by the party faithful and put forward at next November's Congressional elections. The fact that he already tried to run a RINO against Obama in the last presidential election - and lost - seems not to have entered his head. God knows who they will choose in three years time to run for the presidency against, say, 'HillBilly' but if Rove and his satraps have anything to do with it then we can look forward to another four years of 'Socialist Amerika'!
