The Newest Addition

By Alyssa_dld @alyssa_dld
I've welcomed a new member into the training family.
The newest addition
A 2012 Specialized Transition Expert.
At the suggestion of my Ironman Wisconsin facebook peeps, I've named her Bessie.  Because she's black and white and it seems fitting as the nickname for IMWI is IMOO.  Hopefully she is faster than an old cow.
My road bike is named Deandra because she is a diva.  Meaning that I've crashed her...more than once.  Take a corner a little bit too fast and she loses her sh** and falls over.  Some may argue that this seems to be a problem with the rider, but whatever.
So I haven't crashed this new bike yet. Right after I bought her, I rode once outside and then it got freakishly cold again and snowed so I've been holed up inside.

Fact: trainer rides are less boring when done next to your triathlon buddy
I did get back outside for a ride in the hills of eastern Iowa.  And I promptly got my bike and my legs covered in dirt and worms.

Riding the trainer is not a sufficient replacement for riding hills.  Those things kicked my butt.  I was huffing and puffing.
I am still getting used to the new bikes.  As in, I need to invest in more quality pairs of biking shorts because the lady parts are not loving the aero position.  When I first started riding my road bike, it took some time for my sit bones to get used to sitting on the seat and build up some "calluses" so I think time will help this issue too.
My roadie has treated me so well the past 2.5 years so I would never get rid of it, but I am happy that I was finally able to buy a triathlon bike.  I bought it at the Village Cyclesport annual tent sale so I was able to get this baby for a lot less than MSRP.  Which thank goodness, because these things are not even remotely close to cheap.  I've been saving for a while for a triathlon bike so hopefully she is a worthy investment!
Another thing I wanted to mention, Rachel is hosting a raffle to raise funds for The Longest Day for the Alzheimer's Association.  For the Longest Day event, Rachel's team will be running for 16 hours. She has some great prizes and you only need to donate $5 to get an entry.  You can find her raffle here
