The Met Ball

By Holliegalloway @holliegalloway

Ahh The Met Ball, the highlight of the fashion social calendar. Not to mention the event I would like to attend more than any other thing in the world. Everyone who is anyone is there and they all look incredible. There are certainly not enough white tie events for me to swoon over but this certainly makes up for it a little.

As I’ve mentioned following big events before; there are FAR too many websites and blogs slating the ‘worst’ dressed and saying how bad some people looked. And I’ll say it again; there is absolutely NO NEED to point out who looked ‘bad’ (in your opinion). Why not just get excited over the effort everyone put in and how excellent the whole thing is. There is literally no need to tear people down like that, especially when this is them at what they consider to be their most glamorous. I got these images from Vogue.co.uk, who didn’t focus on any negativity whatsoever and simply presented the facts behind the looks for a large selection of the guests, the way it should be.

I’ve picked out a few of my favorite looks:

The Met Ball
The Met Ball

Cara Delevigne and Rihanna in Stella McCartney.

The Stella McCartney gang were definitely some of my favorite dressed, Kate Bosworth and Reese Witherspoon were also in Stella McCartney, but Cara and Rihanna were stealing the show. So sleek and classy but modern and fresh. Amazing.

The Met Ball

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in A/W14 Balmain.

This gladiator look was just a bit different, it stood out to me. RHW can make anything look good though really.

The Met Ball

Hailee Steinfeld in Prabal Gurung with Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry.

How gorgeous, sophisticated but still young.

The Met Ball

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in vintage Ferre and Chanel respectively – from Lily et Cien in LA.

If I had all the riches I would dress like the Olsens. They never look like anyone else but always retain this perfect level of class. I’m obsessed with that vintage Chanel. They are everything.

The Met Ball

Suki Waterhouse in custom-made Burberry.

Super pretty and feminine but still interesting.

The Met Ball

Karolina Kurkova in S/S11 Marchesa.

So. Grand.

The Met Ball

Kendall Jenner in bespoke Topshop.

I ain’t ever seen anything like this in Topshop before! How amazing does she look right now, absolutely timeless. I’m also obsessed with a fishtail.

The Met Ball

Dita von Teese in Zac Posen.

More fishtail magic only more extreme. Forever classy Von Teese.

The Met Ball

Anna Kendrick in J. Mendel.

How cute and simple is this, another fishtail silhouette. Such clean and classy detail on the top. Lovely.
