Story: The Island starts when LAPD cop Mark (Michael Jai White) returns to his childhood home. He learns his brother has been murdered and learns that Manuel (Costa) has taken over the island. Manuel murders anyone who gets in his way or who has wronged him, which includes Mark’s brother.

Verdict on The Island

The Island is an action thriller following a determined LAPD cop who goes in search of the man who killed his brother. It follows him returning home to come face to face with the ruthless gangster running his homeland. Now, he must use his skills to galvanize the islanders to help him win the battle and bring down the gangster.

This is an action movie designed to show off the skills of Michael Jai White. We know he is an excellent action star with a large area of fighting techniques. This shows him off at his best. Even if the story is like a Walking Tall concept, where a military/police figure returns home to take on a gangster. It works for an entertaining late-night action movie.
