Peter Jackson stated that his two-part adaption of “The Hobbit” will now be a trilogy. Jackson said in a Facebook message that the rumors of third movie were true. The first two were supposed to be December 2013 and 2014. The movie is said to hit theaters in the summer of 2014. However, no one knows the true release date.

Jackson wrote, “It is only at the end of a shoot that you finally get the chance to sit down and have a look at the film you have made.” He then said, “We were really pleased with the way the story was coming together, in particular, the strength of the characters and the cast who have brought them to life. “ Jackson wasn’t sure whether he should take the chance to tell more of the tale, but the filmmakers said that he should, for the fans. Jackson did feel that he wanted to tell the whole story of Bilbo Baggins which coincided with the filmmakers thought. He said, “The richness of the story of The Hobbit, as well as some of the related material in the appendices of The Lord of the Rings, allows us to tell the full story of the adventures of Bilbo Baggins and the part he played in the sometimes dangerous, but at all times exciting, history of Middle-earth.”

The first part of the trilogy, “An Unexpected Journey” will be in theaters on December 14, 2012.
