The Hammer Antics – “The Hammer Antics”

The Hammer AnticsThis is our first full on Rock Genre review on Catch My Ear.  I am pleased that the up and coming band The Hammer Antics is the first rock genre review.  This band is from our northern neighbor in Canada.  They are based in Hamilton, Ontario, and I have a feeling they will be seeing more then Canada very soon.  The Hammer Antics is made up by Michelle Owen (singer), Jeff Rinne (Guitarist),  Simon Kiela (bassist), Jenna Rovinelli (drummer).  Now you may know of this band as Jelle, which was their old name.

In June they will be releasing their EP that has the single “Courtney Love” that was released in March and is getting a lot of response from it.  Now I have to say this is a very catchy song off the EP.  It starts off slower but then it picks up and you can help but start taping your foot or fingers once that electric guitar comes in.  If you are looking for just one song to download out of this EP this is the one.  I can see why this is getting a lot of buzz, which will help this rising band make a name for them selves.

The second song that I am in love with is “Heartbreaker”.  I like this song because the start of it is just the lead singer and a piano.  And during that part you can just hear the raw emotion, which is hard to do.  After the first chorus everything else joins in but sounds amazing!  Everything fits well together and the little solos for the guitar are amazing.

The other songs on this EP sound like previous songs on the EP so they just don’t stand out to me.  I have to say is this is a good EP that I see landing this band on the map.  I also like the live feeling I get when I listen to this EP.  I think everyone should take a listen to this group because I feel like they could be the Evanescence.

I give this EP 4/5 stars just because the production of the EP could have been a little bit better, and they could have added a slower song so they could show how different they can be.  Other then that it’s a good EP.
