The Four Sons Of Aymon

By Ingridd @cosytraveler

Yesterday, I mentioned that at the viewpoint of Bogny-sur-Meuse, there was a special monument. It is actually a statue that refers to the medieval tale called The Four Sons of Aymon. There are different versions, but the basic story is the same. The four sons are the knight Renaud de Montauban, his brothers Guichard, Allard and Richardet and they are always accompanied by their horse Bayard. The tale is about their adventures and revolt against the emperor Charlemagne.

Because of the European success of this tale, there are still some traditions and monuments about the four brothers and their horse. In Bogny-sur-Meuse for example there are the 4 rocks and this beautiful statue.

As I mentioned yesterday, this was our last stop in the French Ardennes. We loved the region a lot and will certainly return to do some more exploring!
