The Distance Between Surrender and Vision

“By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.” (Hebrews 11:8)I’m no Abraham. But I do believe I can identify with him on one point— “…not knowing whither he went.”What is God teaching me right now? He’s teaching me to obey with no guarantees. It’s a bit unnerving to be honest. He’s teaching me that there can be a space—some distance between surrender and vision. And it’s a grueling distance.Surrendering to God’s will doesn’t mean you have clarity on what it is. Surrendering to God’s will doesn’t mean you can see it. It simply means you will obey when He reveals it.He often doesn’t give clarity of vision until after complete surrender. There’s a distance between surrender and vision—a time of waiting. And in those moments, looking back is sweetly painful, and looking forward is strangely foggy.Surrender would be much easier if we knew “to what” we are surrendering. But all we really need to know is “to WHOM” we are surrendering. “…The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you…”  (2 Chronicles 15:2)
