After its premiere on Daniel P. Carter’s Radio 1 Rock Show, Sœur have shared new single ‘No Show’ and announced details of a UK tour.
Recorded while touring their ‘Fight’ EP, Sœur’s dual vocalists Anya and Tina have different views on what ‘No Show’ is about; Anya believing it to be about depression and ‘the hopelessness of trying to communicate and the futility of attempting to function’ while Tina says it is ‘about the different expectations people have of life; theirs and other people’s’ and how you can sometimes find purpose in the places you’d least expect.
With the band’s signature duelling guitars hitting you in either headphone from the first riff and James’ precision drumming adding a delicious rhymic slant, the three-minute song finds Anya and Tina asking you to ‘put on a smile’ as they harmoniously sing about the things that set them apart: ‘You don’t play how I play. You don’t walk the same way. I can’t talk’; ‘For my sake, I need to see what I’ve been missing. Show me, give me something, I will listen’.
Two minutes in and the music gets stripped right back as the band demand ‘You give in and you can’t admit it’ before one last burst of noisy riffs signals before offering one final request: ‘Grow up, Peter Pan. Grow up, I know you can’.
