Stuck on Repeat: Minnie Riperton- Loving You

Minnie Riperton- Loving You (is easy cos you’re beautiful)

I don’t know, I was just going about my day recently when I happened to be near a radio that way playing this song. I’d never really listened to it properly but in that moment I was struck by the unprocessed nature of it, clearly beautiful, incredibly sung and with a sensuality i’d never really noticed before.

Since then I’ve been annoying my girlfriend with it as despite the sentiment it does get rather high pitched at certain points (F#6 down to A5 for the curious). Riperton is noted for her ability to reach unusually high head notes, the highest recorded by her being f7 check out some quite unbelievable examples of this here.

Interestingly I found out since that Maya Rudolph of SNL fame is her daughter and the melody from this song is taken from when she sang to her as a child.

Also this song was only released as an afterthought after disappointing reception to her comeback album, it was the fourth single released from Perfect Angel and of course, the rest is history.
