Stormy

When I heard this dropped at SXSW I really thought something would come of it. I didn’t realize it would just quickly shift to Peacock. The funny thing, is that I subscribe to the “ad supported” version. It normally doesn’t bother me, because with a movie, you get a bunch of commercials up front, and then the movie is uninterrupted. Stormy had commercials throughout. Peacock really didn’t care about this doc. Should you?

Why am i even asking this question. If you don’t already have an opinion on this going into it, I’d be shocked. yes, it’s a Stormy Daniel’s documentary, and yes it talks about exactly what you think it would talk about. It doesn’t pull any punches. I noticed that not all the moments included would someone necessarily want out there in the world, but Stormy doesn’t have Final Cut. That’s great. Often when something is made of a living subject, that subject has punches pulled. While most of this is Stormy feeling like she’s describing her own story, that’s not all of it. This crew filmed some things, and include some less savory moments.

I did hate this audio description track though. It’s very minimalistic, and described either by AI, or someone who sounds like AI. Not a fan of the writing or narration. There are times in the film where I’m expecting something to be mentioned, and it just gets glossed over. I’m not trying to go too deep here, so this review can seem as neutral as humanly possible. It had audio description, I watched it, and here’s the review.

Stormy, as a documentary, is exactly what you think it is, but has substandard audio description, even for this type of film.

Final Grade: B-
