Swedish three-piece Spunsugar released DIY-chic music video for new track 'San Jose', the third single from their upcoming new album 'A Hole Forever,' via Adrian Recordings on 29th September 2023, with forthcoming sophomore album due to release on 17th November 2023.

The 'San Jose' music video is almost a parody of the image from Sweeney Todd of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter sitting at the beach. The Californian goth party feel of 'San Jose' to images of Spunsugar's three resident goths enjoying a day at the beach feels so wrong but even more right. The grainy camera quality adds to the gothic feel, really showing the band are new-wave to the core. Whereas the thunderous bassline in the verses of 'San Jose' cement its new-wave feel, the surf punk chorus and gritty distortion set this firmly in its own category of Spunsugar, not just any new-wave ensemble.

The band said, "this song is an homage (and sort of a response) to the Dione Warwick song "Do you know the way to San José" (1968). This is a song about dreams, mainly, broken ones. About pumping gas for the people who achieved theirs. Fittingly, this song has a beachy indie vibe paired with a grungey sound. It lulls you in with a crisp coolness, and then hits you with a distorted riff that chugs away under breathy shoegaze vocals".

Growing up farmer offsprings, bible belt kids of fundamentalists and trailer trash in small towns of Sweden, Spunsugar are based in Malmö, Sweden and consist of band members Cordelia Moreau, Elin Ramstedt and Felix Sjöström.. Each member carries a separate musical background, leading to a melting pot of their distinct influences. Some of the group's most cherished artists are Cocteau Twins, Red House Painters, Hole, Electric Youth, Ramones, and Misfits.

Spunsugar dropped their critically acclaimed debut album 'Drive-Through Chapel' in 2020 and an EP 'Things That I Confuse' in 2021, leading to an abundance of media support from Steve Lamacq at BBC Radio 6 Music, The Independent, The Line of Best Fit, Nothing but Hope and Passion, and more. They recently released two singles titled 'Skin Unwell' on 14th June 2023, and 'It Never Gave Me Anything' on 18th August 2023 that has set the tone for the band's impending electrifying releases.

Spunsugar's new LP 'A Hole Forever' will further discuss dense topics and expose the realities of coming to terms with internal shame. The album tackles themes about getting older and confessing dark secrets with the mindset that life is a slow death.

Spunsugar's new single 'San Jose' was released on 29th September 2023. Their sophomore album 'A Hole Forever' drops on 17th November 2023.
