Springtime Thinking for Your Bedroom

By Cleverbuttons @cleverbuttons

With only two months to go before tiny shoots start poking through the grass and dots of color appear where, for what seems an age there has only been dead leaves, it’s time to think about sprucing up the house ready for the warmer weather.

The bedroom is often the last room in the house to be redecorated, mainly because not many people go in there! Going to sleep and waking up in an attractive and comfortable bedroom adds that extra quality to life.

Bring a springtime feel to the bedroom with the following ideas.

Shabby chic is still very much a favorite of interior designers. Upcycle old items of furniture by giving them several coats of paint in light pink, blues, green and white, using sample pots from the hardware shop will keep the costs down. For example, an old wooden chest of drawers can be painted layer by layer in complimentary colours then sanded down to reveal each colour, giving a worn yet pretty finish to the item.

Plain bedcovers in fresh white or soft creams look smart but cosy with a crocheted or delicately flowered throw.

Avoid bold colours as they are neither restful nor do they fit with a spring-like design. Gentle pastels are much more suited to a room with a vintage feel.

Wooden bed frames create a country feel to the bedroom and can be dressed with all manner of bedding to suit the individual taste. Silentnight beds come in a variety of materials; wrought iron is another choice of bed frame that fits with the vintage/shabby chic design.

A bedroom should be free from clutter to avoid dust and mold growing, both which can interfere with a quality nights sleep. Maximise storage space by choosing a bed with integrated drawers; some divan style beds even have storage beneath the base, what better place to keep your winter woollies when the temperature begins to climb!

Vases of fresh flowers always give that extra touch to make a room feel special, but can it be costly to keep replacing them. A flowering plant will last much longer and there are some beautiful flowerpots to keep them in.

Open your windows, let in the fresh air, make that bed sumptuous and comfortable and think about adding a pretty faded rug to add to complete the vintage style, half the pleasure of vintage is the shopping around for bargains!

Have fun and hope these tips help! I love my mix of shabby chic and mixed fabrics!
