It’s been such a strange year and in the spirit of togetherness and community, we’re going to be counting down to Christmas by sharing a selection of our – and our friends’ – favorite festive songs. Today, we’ve chosen ‘It’s Not Christmas Till Somebody Cries’ by Carly Rae Jepsen.
We all know Carly Rae Jepsen has written some of the best pop bangers of recent years and this festive bop has her capturing the spirit of the season over an electro-tinged synth bop. Carly talks about how sometimes festive gatherings can be a little awkward: ‘My boyfriend is a vegan so they fed him fish. My uncle made it worse by talking politics. I have a few opinions, I might have started a fight. Well, it’s not Christmas ’till somebody cries’. She follows this by recalling Grandpa’s unexpected Christmas high after eating a gummy he shouldn’t have… ‘It’s not Christmas until we all break down in tears. It’s not Christmas, it’s the best time of the year’.
