Australia has been producing some incredible acts as of late but we’ve found one that slipped through the cracks of last year. Taxes is the cinematically engulfing sound of Melbourne’s Flynn Wheeler. Unlike the bright pop or deep electronic beats of many other Australians, Wheeler’s music forms a unique style of indie rock from Genesis-style drumming with the whiny scream of dueling electric guitars. Serving as the perfect soundtrack to the ending scene of any love story, “Back of the Car” is a song that just sticks with you. It builds from drum solos and a massive wall of driving guitar to Wheeler gently whispering sweet nothings as he urges his lover to stay. As if the faint whispers aren’t enough, the song comes wailing back in on the same guitar and drums, guiding you until the end and leaving you longing for more.
